Its a total waste considering most devices (iPad,s, tablets, notebooks ect) and adapters on the market today aren't capable of those speeds. Even then the ones that are are typically crap USB models.

These are not a waste if you have 10+ devices using them. I only have 7 or so at a given time. My n600 handles that great. Not a waste. I am very happy with my router. This can't be much better, but even being the same as my n600 would make it good.

The only benefit over your N600 would be the added speed on the second channel and maybe the cloud service? Unless they added better chips for better range and you are running at those speeds then, yes its a total waste! All of your clients adapters have to match the performance of the N600 (300Mbpsx300Mbps) and even if they did you're are more than likely not even touching the theoretical throughput the router can handle. Adding a theoretical 150Mbps is more marketing than performance.

I have the Linksys E4200v2 that runs at 450x450 but see little to no performance gains since there aren't any decent adapters out there that can handle those speeds. Its a bit like using a 10/100 network adapter on a Gigabit router, it just makes no sense. You have to match your all of components across the board for the optimized speeds. Otherwise you are simply running at the highest wireless speed you'll see supported between two devices is limited to that of the lowest wireless technology of each device.

The reason I upgraded to it was for more simultaneous connections. My old belkin could would get super slow with 4 devices all trying to do something through it. I now have 7 sometimes at a given time. I wanted something reliable also. I wanted something relatively future proof, so that I wouldn't have to get another router for a while. I bought my n600 and am happy with it. It may not be for everyone but it fits my needs.

I've been eyeballing the new 802.11ac routers. They are still ridiculously high and there is a lack of wireless adapters right now, but it is eventually going to be the latest greatest. Right now I don't really have much to worry about since most of my wireless devices are only used for browsing the web but if you live in a house that is media centric these things are supposed to be pretty impressive. If you have several concurrent wireless connections streaming loads of video then they are supposed to offer tons of extra bandwidth.
