Some help for new build.

Good afternoon, I decided to renew my computer after six years. I've been reading up on what to buy, I doubt between several options, especially with the issue of motherboards, because I want one that will last for many years without any problems. I am not going to do much OC but I need decent things if I do someday.

CPU; I have an intel i7 2600K that was a present and I think it's not worth buying an i5 3570k.

GPU; I'd go with the HIS HD5770 that I bought two years ago, is silly to buy a HD7770 if I play with 1280x1024 because the difference is small. HD7850 would be good one for the future when the price drops to 175 €

Memory; G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 8GB 2x4GB PC3-12800 CL8 I've always wanted to have a GSkill and these look good.

Motherboard, this is where I have doubts, I want one to last for many years, have a very good performance, have enough options in the bios and can do some OC. I just need about 3-4 usb 3.0 and about 3 or 4 sata 3.0 connections. I do not want to spend more than 150 € because I dont want crossfire and nonsense extras, I want something fast without having to pay for the extras.

Here are the options I have in mind:
ASRock Z77 Extreme4, Asus P8Z77-M, Asus P8Z77-V LX, ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M, Asus P8Z77-M PRO, Asrock Z77 Pro4, Asus P8Z77-V LK, ASRock Z77 Extreme4, Asus P8Z77-V LE
My favorite is the Asrock Z77 extreme 4.

PSU; Corsair AX650 or HX650 . I need it to be modular and about 650 W , have very good efficiency and silent. I have read other corsair very good but are not modular.

Hardisk; I have chosen a 128gb OCZ Vertex 4 because it is faster than the Crucial M4 128 gb although crucial's one have more reliability. I've had a Vertex 2 for 1 year or 2 and has not given me problems.


Cooling; The stock cooler will be enough if I put the cpu up to 4 ghz, right? Just in case I can put some thermal paste Arctic MX-4 type which is cheaper than a fan.

You seem to kind of know what to look for so its a start. You've definitly picked top line components there.

Motherboard wise. Asrock actually is a more budget orientated part of Asus and are roughly the same quality as Asus' "LE" boards. So you could go for the Asrock Extreme 4 as its tremendous for the price. A couple of boards you've chosen are the smaller mATX size which in my experience can be a pain in the arse in an ATX midtower or Full tower. My choice would be the Asus P8Z77V ATX if you can get one.

Power Supply wise you can't really go wrong with Corsair. HX650 is great but it isn't very modular. Its has more wires branching out than the ones you can connect. If you want fully modular go for either the AX650, or OCZ do one which is almost half the price and it still has 80plus Bronze so its still a good choice. I think its a ZT650w and this will be ample for a HD5770 or any single GPU you upgrade to down the line.

Stock intel processor is fine at stock speeds. Many have said its fine when you've overclocked it to 4.0ghz and beyond but personally I wouldn't take the risk. You can get very good aftermarket heatsinks which don't cost a bomb. If you get the ZT650 PSU, you can get a good aftermarket heatsink with the change. I have a Thermalright Venomous X, don't know if they are still in production but if you can pick one of these up they are a great choice. But bare in mind you'll need 2 120mm fans in push - pull configuration too. Once this is done though my 2500k at 4.2ghz runs at a few (degrees c) above ambient and when gaming it rarely reaches past 45c. Only thing is you'll need a massive case. As a guide it only just about fits in an Antec 900 with about 3mm to spare.

Your on the right track. But I wouldnt go to 4.0 Ghz with the stock HS. Just get a Hyper 212+ for $25. $20 on sale. Its the most efficient HS in that price range. Or the EVO for $10 more.

I will try use a socket 775 heatsink for my cpu, I heard that all Asrock 1155 boards are comptatible with 775 heatsinks (another reason to buy the Z77 extreme 4), if not I will buy the Hyper 212.

About the memory I will change the Ripjaws X for this ones, G.Skill Ares DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 8GB 2x4GB CL9 - 41.95 €. Its a good deal for the price and I wont have problems with cooling the cpu.

About the PSU, I will buy the corsair AX 650, its fully modular, much efficient and 7 year warranty, without doubt its a good investment for 140 €. My actual Tagan 530W is 6-7 years old and its time to change it
