ide to sata

I have a dynamode ide - sata bidirectional adaptor and am trying to connect an ide pioneer dvd-rw to a sata port on a amd chipset mobo but cant seem to get it to find the drive.
Just wondering if anyone else has ued one of these and do they work with optical drives.

I have an old ABIT "Serielle" adaptor that worked great on HDD's, but never had a chance to try with an optical drive. I always used the single legacy IDE port on my MB for DVD and CD

What you might want to do is check the jumper on the DVD drive for master/slave/cable select. If memory serves me, cable select or no jumper at all was required.

just take 40 small wires and connect them directly to sata combining via a pinout thats what i did.

haha im not id suck start a .45 before attempting that.

as for the adapter make sure your not in AHCI mode and you have enabled legacy ide mode. you may also need to disable any kind of HDD delay.

I worked on an HP machine that had something like this. The drive required a molex plug and the breadboard itself that converted IDE to Sata also require power. (Floppy connector.)

It was seen in bios just fine and required an additional driver to work correctly with windows.

I cant seem to get it to work got power to drive and adaptor card. tried with drive on all settings (master/slave/CS) but bios dosent see it. Gonna test it with an ide hdd if i can find one.

Def test it.

As Radical_Edward pointed out, it does need power, looks to be a FDD power connector like the ABIT adaptor I have.

Put jumper on master and sata cable into the first motherboard port (port_0 or port_1, whichever is lowest) If the drive is not on the first port in the bios check it won't be detected.

Those i believe you have to have a power cable connected to the adapter and the drive. Is the led lighting up?
