What are your plans for Windows 8 ?

I like Windows 8's direction, however I do not find it's current versatility mature yet for desktop users that do not have a tablet interface or touch screen. I shall wait until they come out with other options with Metro unless if Microsoft keyboard studying will prove me wrong. I find 8's features to be quite cool but until they improve mouse navigation with the new GUI my W7 partition is going nowhere. Perhaps extended shortcuts on the Start menu as well as a hotkey system to the desktop view will do the trick.

I'm using it on my laptop (slow 5400rpm HDD hooked up to a TV as a HTPC) and it's working fine. Boots quicker compared to prior, but I won't be touching it for my desktop. Not worth the bother on my gaming desktop at all.

My battery life was about 3.5. Now it is 4. There are two battery life reviews of 8 out there that I found. They showed a 7-12% increase. I fell right in that range.

Hi! I've used it since release on my new laptop and I like it. Getting used to the new UI was not hard, and in the end it is a good OS(imo). If I had to pay full price to upgrade from windows 7, I would never do it, but for 15$ I figured "why not".

I've now bought W8Pro for £25 using the promo link posted on TPU. I've also got WMC as this extra cost option is free on promotion. This makes it seriously cheap, so I'll have it anyway even though I don't intend to use it as my main OS. It's Microsoft's latest flagship OS, so having a copy is prudent for a PC enthusiast.

I'll be installing it on my main rig and my laptop on separate partitions/HDDs and will have a play. I really don't like Metro, but I want to check out the desktop, because the OS is faster and lighter than W7.

I went ahead and updated my laptop(well fresh wipe install) to windows 8 pro x64. I got to say it's not terrible, i actually like the speed and feel of it however i do not like the fact that metro sucks with a touch pad lol. I may invest in a start menu replacement but then again, as microsoft themselves kinda touched on periodically, not everyone ever really used the start menu, and i'm one such person, i leave all my icons on the desktop or in rocketdock, everything else i use the run prompt or keyboard commands for. Navigating windows 8 hasn't been all that cumbersome really.

That and for some odd reason my e6410 dell laptop can now play wow (albeit on lowest settings) at 40+ FPS 1280x800.. Which is good cause i'm away a lot these days

Get 8 only if you have an SSD, and then just install Classic Shell to get rid of Metro. I haven't completely disabled Metro, just checking how often if comes up, and so far zero times

AFAIK, you can at least get the Windows 8 task manager in Windows 7 using this:

I downloaded the Preview, but never got around to installing it. Maybe I'll take a look at Win 8 at some point, but it doesn't really pique my interest for now. Sticking with Win 7 for the time being.
