Hi all,

I want to add another four SATA inputs to my system as I need them to run a couple of new add ons. What would be the best way of doing this?

Many thanks, Chris

SATA controller card.

Thanks for that, I went off and bought one on Ebay. Now I have another Q..................

This is the SATA card I bought,

But the PCI sockets on my mainboard are like this,

So my question is, can I use this card in one of these PCI sockets or have I f***ed up?

Nope, you need a generic PCI SATA controller which is going to be slow. Cancel your order if your board doesn't have a PCIe x1 slot.

Yep you screwed up. The card you just bought is for a pcie x1 slot. You board only has standard pci slots. The card will in no way shape or form work on your board.

If his not using the PCI-E slot now, i think it can work.

Yep yep.

There are cheap PCI boards that'll work. They will be slow as the entire PCI bus is 133MB/s iirc. Add a bunch of drives and/or several controller cards and it will be horrible, but if you don't care about speed it'll work. I bought something like this for a project that didn't happen.

EDIT:

If his not using the PCI-E slot now, i think it can work.

What PCIe slot? There's only PCI and one AGP on that board.
