o rly?

while this is an awesome memory speed, the article misses something. specifically, "the a10 mixes excellent cpu performance". if by excellent performance you mean barely able to keep up with the core i3, which is clocked 600 mhz slower.......

Oh well. Try getting 5.0 GHz on the All-in-one watercooler with your mentioned i3. :p

That's what makes this amazing.. it's not some LN2 clock.. it's using cooling that can be purchased around the globe for less than $100 USD.

Or, MSI is pulling a fast one...or...BTA grabbed the wrong pic, since HWBOT says LN2 cooling. :p

EDIT: i dont know if anyone responded to but "troll" might have been a bit harsh. Im just tired of that seemingly endless argument.

Dave, are you questioning 5GHZ on A10-5800K?

no the memory hitting 2800+, honestly man what is very odd about trinity is that is sucks with memory OC in general, Kingston themselves had sad that they aren't able to stabilize any of their kits over 2400mhz, that is just sad since ivy bridge can o 2800mhz on almost every CPU lol.

When i was messing around on AMD day with the trinity platform i could boot at 2800mhz memory once or twice and validate if wanted, but who validates such low score, i just thought it was just how crappy the IMC was. I was on LN2 tho.
170mhz BCLK might equal LN2, trinity was odd, i remember the issue with getting higher validation on CPU score was that BCLk didn't want to go over 115mhz when voltages were high or temp was too low. but BCLk is the issue with that stupid trinity CPU.

I'm interested to know about that daughterboard in the PCI slot. Is this something from MSI?

It's an "old-fashioned" debug board. Old-fashioned because its PCI(dinosaur tech). newer versions connect through the an on-board connector.

Basically it gives you Debug-LED for post codes and the ability to flash your ROM (or run your ROM) from the board. This is basically the same tool the bigger retailers and our RMA use to check what's wrong with the board... or in this case allow our guy to be more flexible.

I'm not that much into hardcore overclocking, but 5.1GHz does not sound THAT impressive. I bet I can also do that with my i3930K just for a bench session. The RAM is another issue, but given that you can buy DDR3-2800 modules from the shelf this doesn't sound THAT impressive, too.

Your 3930k also costed about what? 4 times as much as this CPU and the motherborad probably costed half as much as well. So considering the price, is it really that bad? Absolutely not. So I don't know what you're getting at. Intel doesn't even offer a CPU that can run that fast for the price of the CPU, or prove me wrong. Last time I checked Intel doesn't have a CPU that costs 130 USD and can hit 5ghz.

but given that you can buy DDR3-2800 modules from the shelf this doesn't sound THAT impressive, too.

I think you're evaluating the wrong thing... I would like to see the IMC on your 3930k hit 2800Mhz. Just because the ram can run that fast doesn't mean that your CPU can and that is the #1 thing you need to take away from this. IVB probably wouldn't have a problem with it but I bet you would be hard pressed to get that stable on a SB-E or SB rig. It's less about how fast the memory can go and more about what the CPU can handle.

you may be right, but talking about a world record is a bit bold, don't you think?

No, because they're not talking about all CPUs. They're talking about just the 5800k and most likely the Trinity platform as a whole. We're also talking about AIO water cooler performance, not LN2 which is pretty good as well.

this is for a gaming setup, the a10 will NOT bottle neck in gaming. you will be able to game on this baby for the same amount of money it will cost to get the ram mobo and i3 for an intel setup :)

oh, my bad, i forgot you can play crysis 2 on intel HD.

It's per platform basis in this case. But, it's not a like car ads' "Best in class" lies. The car only has itself and one other in its "class" b/c they made up the class criteria :shadedshu

His comment is far from troll status......

"In Internet slang, a troll (pron.: /ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3] The noun troll may also refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted."

While the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling describing intentionally provocative actions and harassment outside of an online context. For example, mass media has used troll to describe "a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families."[4]"

By this definition, I would look in the mirror as I should too with my comment...... LOL

mabye...it's a stealth ln2 cooler in disquise as a standard heatsink 0_0 i do have to admit, the 5 ghz clock is amazing. although, i wish there were some gaming benchmarks on it. arma 2 please......

if its been done on that small loop then thats insane and huge props but i am more inclined to believe hwbot saying it was ln2 cooled tbh otherwise everybody would be pushing the ram wr with them imo.

HWBOT says Air cooling for memory record, but vantage run was done on LN2.

The i3 is a joke...unless your getting a sandy bridge i5 or better, there is no point in buying Intel. You can show me all the benchmarks you want, I've used a sandy i5 up to ivy i7 at work in both stock and overclocked forms as well as Pile Driver AMDs, FX and A10 alike. The majority of people who bad talk AMD have never even used one or if they have it wasn't paired with 1866mhz memory or some other non optimal performing setup. People also tend to forget that at one point AMD was outperforming Intel.
