QNAP Systems, Inc. today announced that its latest business-class, 2U rackmount TS-x70 series Turbo NAS start shipping now. The new generation TS-x70 series, including the 12-bay TS-1270U-RP and the 8-bay TS-870U-RP, are aiming to offer the business users a superb high-performance yet budget-friendly NAS solution to smooth daily file operations with low total cost of ownership. The models fulfill various business applications including high speed backup, server virtualization, iSCSI IP-SAN, video storage and centralized shared storage, and outstand as an affordable 10GbE ready NAS.

Powered by a high performance Dual-core Intel 2.4GHz processor, the new TS-x70 series are equipped with 4GB DDR3 RAM, which can be upgraded to 16GB optionally. The dual USB 3.0 ports allow high-speed server data backup. Featuring 10GbE re ady, the TS-x70 series provide dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, which can be expanded up to six Gigabit Ethernet ports, or four 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports plus two Gigabit Ethernet ports, benefit in aggregating and boosting network performance. "The TS-x70 series are proficient to fulfill mission-critical storage needs of small and medium businesses with maximum system uptime," said David Tsao, product manager of QNAP. "The 10GbE network expansion options can satisfy high-speed data transmission required in the business environment," added Tsao.



The TS-x70 series are designed as a robust storage solution to sustain business continuity with the comprehensive offerings, including redundant power supply, 512MB DOM with dual system OS that ensures successful system boot-up, dual LAN ports providing network failover, and hot-swappable support for SSD, SATA 6Gb/s 3.5" and 2.5" drives. "We are excited at adding more advanced features such as SSD cache, thin-provisioned volume and RAID expansion enclosuer soon," added Tsao.

The TS-x70 series offer a well-rounded backup solution with comprehensive backup alternatives, including Real-time Remote Replication (RTRR) for real-time or scheduled data backup, backup to cloud storage including Amazon S3, ElephantDrive and Symform, and the support of third-party backup software such as Veeam Backup & Replication and AcronisTrue Image. Besides, with snapshot technology, the IT administrator can use the LUN snapshot to back up contents in the LUN to various storage destinations. Windows users and Mac users can use QNAP NetBak Replicator utility and Apple Time Machine respectively to easily back up data to the Turbo NAS.

Being certified by major virtualization solutions in the market, the TS-x70 series are proven to be reliable server virtualization storages for iSCSI/IP-SAN deployment. The TS-x70 series support VMware vSphere⍊ , Citrix XenServer and Microsoft Hyper-V for optimizing IT virtualization and improving work efficiency. Being certified with VMware Ready for ESXi 5, the TS-x70 series support both vSphere 4 and vSphere 5.

The TS-x70 series drive high efficiency in daily business operations and privilege control. Both new models support cross-platform file sharing for Windows, Mac, and Linux/UNIX users, and provide a centralized storage solution. The Windows AD and LDAP directory service features enable the IT administrator to retrieve user accounts from Windows AD or LDAP-based directory server and efficiently assign access rights on the Turbo NAS, greatly simplifying the account setup for businesses with a large number of users. The Windows ACL (Access Control List) feature allows sophisticated shared folder permission settings, increasing productivity on access right management.

More features designed f or businesses the TS-x70 series offer include the FTP server for easier large-size file sharing, the RADIUS server for centralizing and consolidating user authentication, the Syslog server for collecting and storing the logs of other network device on the Turbo NAS, the VPN server for accessing the Turbo NAS and other resources on the same local network from the Internet, the proxy server for web filtering and monitoring to enhance business Internet security, the web server for hosting multiple websites on the Turbo NAS, and so on.

Very nice specs, but like all QNAP products it costs an arm and a leg for the hardware sans hard drives.
