Some people claimed it was bound to happen. Some people hoped it never would. Pirates didn't care one way or another, and continued uploading illegally-obtained clips to YouTube. There have been tons of rumors regarding YouTube getting sued, and Viacom can proudly claim that they are the first company to actually do it. Viacom was unable to reach a licensing agreement with YouTube, and ordered their clips off YouTube. YouTube attempted to comply, but piracy appeared to prevail. The lawsuit details 160,000 clips still on the site, and wants $1 billion USD in damages. Viacom claims that YouTube's business model, which is "based on building traffic and selling advertising off of unlicensed content, is clearly illegal and is in obvious conflict with copyright laws". YouTube claims that they have done everything in their power to remove Viacom's content from their website, and is almost certain the courts will agree.

Youtube really have been trying their best. Over the last few months almost every Viacom owned video has been removed within a few days! So I very much doubt Viacom will win this, and even if they do it definately wont be to the tune of $1 billion.

Luckily I got to watch Jackass 2 first though! ;)

I hate that copyright holders are winning this battle, particularly when older content is involved. I loved how I could go up on YouTube and catch old episodes of TV shows that aren't even airing anymore -- now a lot of that stuff is gone, and while legal services may have better quality video, they're also pricey. $1.99 or more an episode for something that was free or nearly-free to watch on TV is outrageous.

Oh well, theres plenty more YouTube type sites that they don't know about yet. And when the corporations find out about those sites, there will be even more! Just a bit of a blow for YouTube who have built up from nothing to dominate the market!

This is the last stroke! Viacom must DIE!!

For months they have raided Youtube, deleting every video that had anything to do with their channels. Their ruthless renegade and heartless crusade has destroyed a very important part of Youtube and has gotten thousands of people banned. People who took the time to upload what some of us cannot view otherwise.

Youtube's policy and clear and is the reason why it avoids lawsuits.
Youtube agrees to delete any video at the request of the "owner" company.

Viacom has gone too far! There is no reason to take "their" videos off of Youtube. It isnt hurting anyone but the hardworking people who take their time to upload bits and pieces of certain clips (much like every news and comedy show does) for the rest of us to view.
This dosent hurt their rating. This dosent hurt them in ANY way.
They are just being bastards and asserting their right to take the videos off for NO reason.

So many people have had their videos removed that many of them are switching over to a site called "DailyMotion", which the crusades have not ravaged.. yet.

The fact that they are suing Youtube, when Youtube's policy cannot be any more clear is testiment to how stupid and evil they are.

They should leave TV shows IF commercials are left in place.

On one note has anyone noticed if you use a song(Like a NIN song) in a video that you made it will be removed because of the song.

I think a lot of users will go over to filehost in the end.
