What AMD is trying to say here is that that the coolers for their upcoming Radeon HD 8000 series would be better than the predecessors but won’t be as good as the custom solutions offered by their AIB partners.

The article makes no sense. According to what is said, nothing will really be different.

So from what these articles are saying, AMD is only going to revise their reference design to be better.

No news of increased efficiency or performance improvement.

Sure my experience with the reference HD7970 cooler as awful based on noise.
But still shouldn't be the sole goal of AMD unless they are stumped for performance improvements on GCN at the moment or still knowing they need to work on solid drivers for the card.
I mean they have come a LONG way since release of the 7xxx series but still I think there is a few bugs to work out before they are solid. (not saying drivers of any manufacturer will be completely bug free for everyone)

GPU's at E3, thats crazy. amd officials said that "no new gpu's till late 2013" before a month or two. i dont remember exactly but they can release at E3 because of nvidia's gimmick.
hate nvidia for their cheap profit tricks.
