MSI Ships GE40, the New Standard in High Performance Portable Gaming

Armed with state of the art components, including an Intel Haswell Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M, the GE40 weighs only 4.4 lbs. and measures less than 1-inch thick, making it the ideal choice for gamers seeking superior performance and mobility.





The GE40 takes full advantage of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 760M performance by adding a Matrix display that allows users to output to 3 displays simultaneously (including the native notebook display). To complement the GE40's superior graphics, MSI incorporated Sound Blaster Cinema and Audio Boost, two technologies that deliver amazing surround sound with realistic and immersive sound clarity.

For the same price you have a variant with AMD 8970M GPU which smokes in the water the 760M from nVidia. Also 17" screen instead of 14". But it has also crappy AMD CPU...It would be interesting a comparison between those two in games for the same price.

Its quite a lot harder to stuff hardware into a 14" chassis than a 17" version. The 17" laptop you are talking about has a lot of other compromises too, most glaring is the AMD cpu

not to mention, AMD's drivers. specifically, their enduro technology (amds version of optimus) is still years behind. it still doesnt work properly, and a new chip just makes it harder on them. my current laptop has an amd gpu.....never again.

all things considered though, id love 14 inch machine like this. way better than the alienware model (twice the gpu power, hopefully a heatsink that actually works) or the lenovo model (micro-stuttering everywhere). only the asus g46 successor is left. if that doesnt pan out...than the ge40 it is.

They have problems with the mobile drivers and especially the optimus equivalent named enduro which doesn't work that well to say the least. Also every mobile amd gpu that i know of(mostly the 5470Ms and 5670Ms) heat up to 100C and melt the connectors.

What else is there in the 14" category with non-gloss 1600x900 and decent dedicated graphics? I might be up for replacing my laptop soon. This GE40 is on my short list already.

Getting clobbered badly by the AMD cpu inside is not one of the 8970M's strengths.

well, there is the alienware m14x, though i wouldnt recommend it, as it overheats and only has half the gpu power of the ge40. i heard gigabyte was bringing out a 14 inch gaming laptop as well, but i havent seen it. the only other one that is avaliable, AFAIK, is the 14 inch razer edge. seems like msi hit the perfect spot here. there are not really any alternatives, with the razer being $600 more expensive, and the alienware having throttling issues, and lenovo's y480 having stuttering issues with sli.
