I just stopped by my friend's place whom has a PS3. We were chatting about upcoming consoles and stuff. He says he's getting a PS4. Then he puts in Zen Pinball Star Wars Edition.

I'm thinking, A), I'll suck at it, B), it'll be boring. I sucked at first but since I used to be an actual pinball player as a kid, I started getting the hang of it. You don't have to be good with a gamepad because it's just L&R bumper taps to use the flippers.

We did mostly the Episode V mode where movie screens come up if you enable them and Vader asks you to "Choose wisely". We sat there several games trying to figure out how to do that. I Googled for a wiki on it while he was having ago at it. All you do use scroll through the scenes with the flipper and hit X to select.

Then the fun begins as various Star Wars dialog plays, with various figures popping up depending on your selection. It's then that you can really rack up points. "Vader's Fury" is also pretty good. At a certain point he'll jump in and "Alter the game".

Yeah it's nothing super cerebral but it's got nice graphics, it's a lot of fun, it only cots $10, and it can really hone your reaction time. I started out feeling a bit sluggish, but after about 15 minutes it had me much more alert.

We always talk about AAA titles, but sometimes these little overlooked ones can sustain your interest after those $60 ones lose much of their appeal.

Super fun game. I have it for PC and it's great, it even has portrait mode support.

I wouldn't even count the Wii-U, and I'd wait 2 years before getting anything. Price drops+ games worth playing by then. No reason to blow that kind of cash on day one for this shit.

I agree; I probably won't get a PS4 until a couple years. Then again I have the cash to throw away so maybe I will. At least, to get at least one game and then wait for a while before getting any more games until the prices drop. PS3 is $200 now, and it started at $499. So on average it decreased by about $30/year. Not a big savings. Then again it's the slim version; the original is about $100 now, if you even want it. I might wait for the slim version of PS4, or I might just go ahead and buy it.

Not only that, but it should hold most of its value for awhile. So even if you buy a PS4 right off, you can probably sell it at not much of a loss, when you upgrade to the newer model when it comes out.

Don't know if I'd be so keen on a slim version of any console unless they did a die shrink on the processor and made it cooler running.

What's been your high score so far? After about a half hour at it I managed 14,000,000, but I'm not completely sure what was going on to generate all those points. There's a lot happening in it for a relatively simple game.

The PS3 did release at $499, but it was for the 20GB model, and I believe the OS was something like 17GB, so wasn't really the one to get. The 80GB was $599, and anyone I know bought that, out of maybe the 30 or so people I know with PS3's, I don't think anyones ever had the 20GB model.

I thought this guy got banned for spammig a few times now maby not? Anyways pc is master race. But if i was given one for free it would be the ps4.

He got called out on such and there was drama, but he wasn't banned. Following that, he left and had "moved on to a better place" written in his sig back then. He made his comeback a few months ago... make what you will of that. He hasn't been spamming as much, but the intellectual depth of his threads hasn't improved.

Anyway, back on topic... I'd say the PS4 would be the best pick. No region restrictions and no forced online DRM are the main reasons. Sony is also more likely to get Japanese developers to make games for their console, whom in my opinion make more appealing console-exclusive (non-PC) games. Since the days of the first Xbox, Microsoft hasn't been able to get a foothold in the Japanese market, both developer and consumer-side. Japan, a major region in the console gaming world, isn't even part of the initial 21 countries getting the XBox One. And, no, those outside the 21 countries can't import it and expect it to function. No backwards compatibility sucks, but it's understandable this time due to architecture change. Nintendo's WiiU would be a close second since while it does have backwards compatibility, its games are region locked.

I'm making a manufacturer jump this time around. Spent the past decade gaming on Microsoft gear, but the Xbox One has ridiculous requirements for a console system. Always on, Kinect required. That's trash for a console. I get the same thing on my PC and I don't have to pay $60 a year to rage in Call of Duty. Besides, I'll be playing the Xbox One "Exclusive" Titanfall on my PC, exclusively.

So, PS4 will be my console. Sure, Sony are dicks, but until Nintendo puts something out that floats my boat I won't be buying a Wii-U.

If I ever do end up getting one it will now be the Xbox One as they have now taken away all the bad DRM.

Just preordered an Xbone and Forza after hearing the news, both are day one editions :)

See MS, we gamers can be a reasonable bunch when companies are not trying to force draconian DRM schemes down our collectives throats, I hope the increased number of preorders for the Xbone after the reversal of these reviled policies sends MS the right message :)

The DRM was only half of what made the Xbone bad. It's still a spyware device that will be in millions of people's livingrooms.

Not only that, it also is $100 more, uses slower RAM, and doesn't have a swappable HDD. All three of those things I think are pretty big issues. Also having bluetooth support is pretty nice as well.

Does it not have some what lower end video card to in it ?.

Could not agree more, and yes the bluetooth with the PS3 owned i could be in another part of the house changing music tracks lol. And yes i do do that as my AV has a zone 2.

I know i will not get another MS bluetooth mouse ever again what a load of CRAP! lol.

As far as I know the videocards are very similar, but that faster RAM is just one less bottleneck, and knowing you won't need to go out and buy a new model because you need more HDD space is always nice.

God I cant stand Sony's controller. Its about the only thing that keeps me with Xbox.

I've always liked Sony controllers more, maybe it stems from my hate of the original Xbox controllers that could be used as Flails to kill people. The revised shrunken one is good, I like the bottom triggers more, but otherwise, I enjoy the PS controllers. I still think the original PS1 controller without analog sticks is my favorite controller, it was so comfortable and light, I remember hating the Dual Shocks, just felt so bloated and heavy.

I really don't care much about the controllers myself, got used to both, I also liked the non analog ps1 controllers very light and hard to break

but the gamecube xbox(not the s) and dreamcast controllers . . . . . . made me want to stop playing games on those consoles.

The problem with XBOX1 is that the people at microsoft tried to implement the crap that they tried to implement that got people mad.

If they are lame enough to even suggest such a thing, it scares me if they might change their minds later.

Unless there are multiple sexy, hot, steamy games that is exclusive to xbox1... no deal

Yes, PS4 is much better, don't think anyone's debating that, I'm getting one on launch day :toast:

And I know, Xbone has so many things going against it: Kinect and all privacy concerns it entails (some say it's even part of PRISM...), $100 higher price, lower performance hardware specs, you name it.

The fact is, unfortunately, as long as some exclusive continue being released for the system, there's no other way you can enjoy games like Forza, Halo, Killer Instinct (and please double helix, don't screw this one, I've waited patiently since the N64 for a proper KI release) and others.

Just like you wouldn't enjoy Zelda, Mario, Metroid and other awesome games available for the pathetically under powered Wii U.

If you truly enjoy gaming there's too many games out there that are platform exclusive unfortunately, I wish there was a universal platform where you could play all games available (console emulators for PC?) but for the moment that remains a utopia :(

But if you have to buy one console only in this cycle, I have no doubt the PS4 will give you the best bang for your money :rockout: Once other consoles start coming down in price and become more affordable, I advice getting them or you'll be missing out on a ton of awesome games :)

As far as I know the videocards are very similar, but that faster RAM is just one less bottleneck, and knowing you won't need to go out and buy a new model because you need more HDD space is always nice.

Yup, only thing i don't like with the SONY is that you have to pay to play online which really to me is not a great deal as the only games i like on consoles are like Heavy Rain and Uncharted how ever it will not help sales for other games if there is a lot of people who are like my self..

If we do get one at some point games like Little Big Planet will miss out on sales as we will not get it due to the multiplayer charge.

but the gamecube xbox(not the s) and dreamcast controllers . . . . . . made me want to stop playing games on those consoles.

Gamecubes was horrible, but I hated N64's more, always burnt my thumb on that damn joystick.

You have to pay for either, not just Sony. But so far, Sony's online pay service has given out a lot of games to people who do have it, most people I know who have PS Plus don't regret it. To say you only like Heavy Rain (not a game in a series) and Uncharted seems a bit crazy, ones a great game and one's a great series, but to rule out the future or some others (going by Reddits current theme, The Last of Us) that are out right now, that closes many windows.

Not sure what you mean on the last part there, get what?

I don't care for many console exlcusives anymore, not enough to buy the platform at any rate.

Last time I bought a console for a game was the original Xbox for Halo. I was pissed though, because Halo was supposed to be on PC and my PC back then was a beast.
