I'm guessing 90% of the peeps here would tell you 8 GB mem is quite enough, but it also slightly depends on what you are going to do with it ofc.

Also if at all possible I'd go with an intel setup, something i5, more performance and lot less taxing on that powersupply. And less power usage is less $ ofc.

Personally I would stick with the 4850 for now and get something 8xxx this winter, more future proof. Maybe replace the power supply and the graphicscard at the same time by then.

So in short, my advice would be get any i5 Ivy bridge/haswell, with the correct mobo 77/87 depending on cpu, the asrocks are fine budget choices there too, 8 gigs of ram 1600 minimum, save up a bit more next 6 months and buy a new gen graphics card and power supply in the winter. :)

The graphics card totally depends on your monitors resolution.

If the price is right on them parts and it is better than what you have now, then buy it. You may be able to buy something new i5 etc instead though, depending on the price.

I'd encourage you to go with 8GB and the FX8320 if possible.

A fast HDD is best if you can't budget a SSD--the WD Caviar Blacks are my favorite.

If it's gaming only I'd get the FX-6300 actually. Save some on the power bills.

why buy an overpriced 6850 when you can buy a 7790 for the same price, and which performs better!
also buy a FX6300 if you want to get the best of both worlds. the 8120 is not a great processor.
If you have budget 8320 is the way to go.

but before all that, you need a good PSU. i doubt the old zalman has enough juice left in it to power a fx 6300/8120 a 7790/6850.

go for a corsair/seasonic 500W. dont go for the Corsair VS series, as thats outdated tech, even though its cheap.

I would also like to reiterated a piledriver 6 core like the 6300, if you are unable to get the 8 core piledriver.

That should be a good enough system to play most games now on medium settings at 1920x1080. In other words, it should be quite nice for the money. Maybe see if you can get a HD7850 or a 650ti should you decide you need more horsepower. That would get you medium-high.

I would get the FX6300 over an 8120 performance in games will be better. If you can snag a better cooler as well try for that as they do like to be overclocked.

Definitely try and get the 6300 or the 4300. An older Phenom II X4 or X6, if you can get it for cheap, really isn't bad for gaming either, especially now with modern games tending to support/require 4 threads.

FSP power supplies are very decent as well.

I'd roam eBay for a good deal on a 7850 or a 7870 if you don't want to wait for the 8000 series.
