How is it that all the owners of intel kit are not up in arms that they were pushed unnecessarily into a new socketed mobo and had to buy a dear version to oc yet now most board makers have a bios hack to oc on lower priced boards id be up in arms as its blatant piss takeing as is the socket a year plan wtf.

All chips are mounted on an interposer (multi layered pcb) so imho some of those sockets are only for the money rapeing and not due to changes.

Who cares?

I have a socket 2011 motherboard and before that I had 1155 for 2 years. I don't feel "raped". They don't force you to buy anything. I don't see them putting a gun to your head and make you buy a Haswell motherboard.

Plus, Intel is a massive corporation. Without competition from AMD, they don't need to push the limits of silicon. They just release what they can get away with that can be called an "upgrade". You think they care about people like you and me and would roll head over heal for us to deliver the ultimate platform or processor every time they release something? No. All they care about, or in fact any other company, is maximizing profits and Intel is doing just that. Don't think for a second that AMD wouldn't have done the same thing if they had the upper hand.

He's saying it's BS that intel forced consumers to buy a Z87 board for Haswell overclocking, but now manufacturers are unlocking overclocking on H87 and B85.
I agree it's BS intel did that to begin with, but I don't think "rape" is a proper term here. If you're going to be overclocking, you'll probably want a Z87 board anyway for things like more/better VRMs, finer tuning, etc.

For one, Intel 4 series processors have built-in voltage regulation now so the motherboard only feeds them 2 voltages and instead or the 6 or 8 it used to be and that's it. Intel has also restricted overclocking on H and B series chipsets for the entire time they have existed, and those boards are usually crap anyway. I wouldn't want my $349 CPU overclocked on an $80 board.

Also, what happened to AMD's FM1 socket, anyway? Seems it was only there for exactly one generation of APUs, wow.

But you are correct, sensible people wont buy a 4770k and an $80 pile of cardboard crap MoBo to overclock it with on 4 phase power and zero heatsinks on the VRMs.

I don't see the problem - I'm happy with my main computer's i7-4770K. I'm also happy with my secondary computer's i3-3220...

Also, if you're going to get a good CPU like the i7-4770K you should get a good Z87 motherboard to take advantage of it. But it would be silly to buy a Z77 motherboard for an i3-3220, for example.

Let's just make one big thing about all of this clear, even though the chips can be overclocked, it generally voids warranties. Thus it really shouldn't matter if Intel "raped" any one, we're technically ruining the products. Also, the various chipsets are built around what their intended uses are. The big fancy ones have more features for the more intensive/involved user, where the basic ones are for people who don't do much, and basically need a computer for it's simplest reasons. The fact that now the manufacturers are allowing for the cheaper boards to have similar functionality as the fancy ones has nothing to do with Intel. Blame the manufactures and BIOS companies for the lack of OCing support in the boards.

Most of these H87 B85 boards aren't physically equipped to handle much overclocking. Most of the "world" would never overclock their systems. One thing "enthusiasts" forget to realize is that PC enthusiasts are in a very small minority.

Nobody is being pushed into a new socket. That is a consumer decision.

Yes a consumer makes his own mind up but the proprietor doesn't normally start passing out free slight upgrades only if you went cheap.

Anyway a few pins swapped in all previous gens were completely bs and for the money.

I saw a video on youtube, someone from INTegrated ELectronics said that they needed to change the socket, because of the new nm. and because of replacing the igp. but whatever, its not like you need to buy new stuff every generation in my opinion.
