AS5 On Graphics Card?

I have ordered myself one of these.

Anyways I am thinking about taking the cooler off and replacing the thermal material with AS5. Would AS5 be ok on the RAM chips and GPU?

I believe you'll want to be sure to get it ONLY on the chips as AS5 can conduct electricity i think. I did it about 3 years ago on a 9800GTX+, worked fine. I even said hell with the thermal pads and just used the TIM on the memory chips. Pretty sure that's not recommended tho

ehhhhh the icooler verision's memory is cooled by air, there is no heatsink on the ram, only the gpu and vrm's

forgot to add, you shouldn't feel bad about not getting the turbo, its the exact same card just slightly overclocked but 7790's usually overclock between 1200-1300mhz on the core on average so you are good.

AS5 is CAPACITIVE, not conductive.

That said, do not put it on the IC's.. they use thermal pads anyway so there is a heck of a gap between the memory IC and heatsink that cannot be overcome by paste.

Preferably use MX-4. AS5 is conductive, which is why you have to be careful with it. You can use it, just don't get any on the gpu leads. If it is a brand new card, I wouldn't bother re-timming it just yet.

there shoul have been cooling for the memory chips though. mine has them. mines a saphire though. yours will get loud. that cooler is as simple as it gets.

That cooler isn't too loud with its default settings. I reviewed it.. or maybe something else with that same I cooler.. 7770? I don't recall. But it wasnt bad.

The Sapphire is not the HIS so the coolers are different.

AS5 is not conductive, its capacitive.

@OP You need to use thermal pads on you RAM chips and VRM, the TIM is only for the GPU.

Don't know about that, I've been using it a lot on tons of stuff and I don't think I've noticed anything like that.

I did it on my XFX 7850 double dissipation and dropped about 10*C

. I think I'd use ceramique next time due to the conductivity risk.

The DD coolers had bad reviews but it wasn't the cooling design (which is quite well designed apart from the vrm cooling), its the shitty goop that XFX puts under the cooler. If you send them an email they will approve it and you don't void warranty!
