I'm thinking Ultrabook, Long battery, Light weight.

Using it for Skype, Emails, Open Office, Music, web games, etc. So in otherwords "the general user". Hard drive space won't be an issue since just about everything is 500+ Gb and there is online storage such as google drive and drop box as well as a varieity of others.

I would be okay with refurbished if it helps get a nicer product at a lower price. It's going to be used for traveling a lot as well so something that's going to be durable. I assume all batteries will be fine with spot charging, if that makes sense. A good web cam would be nice, but I understand this may be limited. In terms of priority, I would say weight is the overall factor, screen size I would say around 14" would be the sweet spot, not to large, but not small and can stay within about 4lbs/1.8kg <-- for those who prefer metric! :) Anyway, I think 13.3 would be fine as well but 15 is definetly going to be to large.

Newegg has a refurbished HP ultrabook with 4gb/i5/500gb for 529.
Refurbished: HP ENVY 4-1030us 14" Ultrabook

I'm thinking about that one.

You have lots (actually too many) choices in that budget range. Zenbook is not bad.

Just check out Asus, Dell, and Lenovo websites for some selections.

I think there are a lot of good choices. This Zen book expires tonight and I think would fit the bill just right.

I have the Ivy Bridge version of that exact Zenbook. Was bought brand new, have had it for a week. Would sell it for $599 plus shipping.

The IB version has black keys on the keyboard and a backlit keyboard. Only selling it because I bought the UX32VD Zenbook (with the 1080p screen and GT620M).

I generally spend weeks when hunting for a new laptop, doing my researches on every possible products and so on.

I'd love to suggest you do the same, but that's up to you really. Like I said, that zeonbook isn't bad. For the purpose you mentioned, it fits the bill perfectly and it's aluminum chassis to boot. Aluminum beats any kind of plastic especially in wear and tear department.

I'd personally go with Lenovo's new additions: s431: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/s-series/s431/ , starts from $624 with 1366x768, BUT when you choose, you can change the display to 1600x900 on Intel HD4000, and you will be under $700. Better check it on their official website. I own the E530 and its the same series- the keyboard, maaan, the keyboard beats anything out there. On s431 I think its even backlit for the money. But, as I said see the specs for yourself.

Another vote for the S431 with the $50 upgrade to a 1600x900 screen, that should be standard.

I have not yet used a Lenovo with the new trackpad configuration that dispenses with the old clicker keys for the pointing stick and trackpad, but it should still be a far, far better setup than most laptops. Considering you can buy this unit for $720 with a 128GB SSD, that's a very good deal for a Thinkpad, but who knows if, or how much they cheaped out the build quality to get there compared to the T431 and X series ultrabooks.

You can also go for Dell - Ultrabook 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop. though it is bit over-budget but it is value for the money. You can consider this one.

Why would you recomend a larger screen wich I explicitily said no to? Not trying to be mean man, but just asking.

13.3 to 14 inch is the sweet spot for good mobility & accessibility. 11/12 inch is just too damn small for comfortable typing. 15inch is where it starts to get big.
