RAID 0 Troubles

Awhile ago I upgraded from my RAID 0 to an SSD as my OS drive and now I'm finally needed the extra storage space, mainly for game installs so keeping the RAID setup is a must!

The problem is I have totally forgot what I'm suppose to do... :slap:

What I want is to keep what is on the array as I love looking through my old files... being a messy person with my files I suspect there is loads of crap that I'll enjoy seeing again so is that possible to setup an old array on a new OS?

Your post is confusing.

Is the OS on the raid0 or the ssd right now?

Sorry... I'm confusing at the best of times aha. I'll try again...

I want to install an old RAID array from another rig on my current system, how do I go about it? ... A lot simpler that way huh :p

My OS is on the SSD.

If it's from an Intel chipset to an intel chipset just plug it in and configure the bios for raid.

edit; just saw AMD in specs.

I believe AMD is the same though, similar or the same chipsets should be able to plug in and set for raid and be good to go. You will likely have to initialize it in disk management but the data should still be there.

yup..backup first, i have done it multiple times, with similar chipset it just plug and play, however there is a possibility that your RAID setup will be gone during transfer process,(ie: only 1 HDD detected in RAID setup) specially if the SATA/RAID Driver need reinstall, if that happen dont install AMD raid expert, just reset the remaining detected HDD to non RAID (dont delete RAID) and rebuild with exact same config (stripe size, disk size, etc) and use utility test disk (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step) to fix the setup partition with it deep search and mark the partition active so Windows can detect it.

Funny thing about this was my friend had a z68 and I plugged them into my z87 and was able to recreate his array even after I had written data... it was fragmented as hell and broke but it found the array

I have brought the same raid array from X58 chipset and still runs fine on Haswell
I have never had an issue on Nforce4 chipsets but have never used anything newer from AMD

the fact is 3 days ago i just move my 2 x 4TB RAID 0 from ASrock Z68 to Asus Rampage X79, the new MB detect the RAID setup perfectly but Windows cant access it and it trigger chkdsk/scandisk while booting to Windows 7 with the 2 HDD installed, it took almost 3 days for chkdsk to fix the entire array but in the end everything was OK and not a single file lost.

Now the problem is the solved, no idea what happened to be honest... I know I went into the raid utility and accidently (tried) adding my SSD and other storage to my array, stupid I know and I don't even want to explain how that come around... Anyways I lost my MBR and had no way of hooking the optical drive up at the moment nor did I have a USB stick with Windows on it to use the repair function so after a long night/morning of downloading Windows 8 and creating a USB stick on an old and slow laptop, I manage to fix the MBR and booted into Windows on the PC and what do you know it all works, no problems with the RAID array now.
