NVIDIA is readying a new GeForce Experience feature called ShadowPlay. The feature lets you record or stream your gameplay in high-quality h.264 format, with minimal performance impact, in comparison to other third party apps, such as FRAPS and MSI Afterburner. While apps such as FRAPS capture from the DirectX pipeline, and strain various sub-systems by recording videos into near-lossless AVI formats, NVIDIA might be experimenting with an alternative method, besides recording in formats that don't strain the system too much. ShadowPlay is debuting with a new driver labeled GeForce 331.65 beta, which was leaked to the web. Screenshots of the GeForce Experience also reveal an applet by NVIDIA that lets you control LEDs on reference design GTX 770, GTX 780, GTX TITAN, and GTX 690. Since the leaked drivers are hosted on third-party file sharing sites, we must caution you on possible security risks.

Sounds interesting. I wonder if it is similar to g-sync.

Doesn't g-sync just make the gameplay smoother or something? It's probably got some cool marketing name associated with it.

Hasn't AMD had something like this now for years? Or was that just GPU video encoding?

or you can just use bandicam. Bandicam is an alternative to fraps and better in my opinion. Can record both desktop and games.

http://www.bandicam.com/

Supports intel Quicksync, nvidia cuda and AMD app.

>>>>> much better than fraps, encodes on the fly, less impact on performance.

Why 3rd party websites for DL? I just checked on nvidia.com and you can get the driver from there. I will try it out, but I already know that it doesn't support my laptop's GPU. Bad nVidia, bad dog :D :D

Consider it relies on the h.264 hardware encoder that's only found in Kepler cards and up, (and not even all models IIRC) you probably shouldn't be surprised.

Yeah, I checked the notes. But they exclude all mobile GPU's, regardless if you have a laptop with 750M Sli or a simple GT640/740 etc. I always thought that both desktop and mobile versions have this h.264 hardware encoder, that offloads the CPU when watching h.264 movies etc. That thinking caused my dissapointment. Othwerwise I have GT630, which is a rebranded GT540 in my case, because it's on 40nm, not on 28nm. But still, it's not THAT old, come on :D give it some credit, will ya :D

P.S

Installed, and Shadowplay is grayed out. Now, uninstalled GeForce experience. I put Bandicam to check it out.

Just tried it and it works awesome!

No apparent performance hit as far as I can tell.

Drivers are up on the official Geforce sites too.

I wondered if it was similar to g-sync in the way it accesses the card or if it just cuda. The little things you leave out really make a big difference sometimes.

Useful if you are a youtuber, settings will improve over time I think. I am actually pretty interested in trying out, even if I don't make videos.

I assume he is just talking about GeForce Experience rather than ShadowPlay.

Either way, both work just fine, ShadowPlay from my early testing is pretty fab already.
