Power Inverters

My 600w power inverter wont power my Vizio 37" TV which is rated at 70w. The TV shuts off right away. The inverter will run the satellite receiver, radio, lamp etc. but not the TV. Any ideas as to why?

Power inverters, especially cheap ones, can provide very dirty power. The inverter might be tripping a protection in the TV.

This is almost always the case if the inverter outputs a modified sine wave.

Any inverter that says it outputs a pure sine wave should be good.

I was told by multiple car audio shops that each xbox 360 would need 750-800 watts. But they were also trying to sell me modified sine wave inverters

750-800w?! The original Xbox 360 came with a 200w power supply, so the max it would ever use is 200w. The current models (Xbox 360 E/S) use 120-135w.

The power inverter may give a peak of current on activation so the tv protection is triggered. Don't do that too often of the tv may not withstand the surge many time again.

I have one of those two, but I work hard to keep him *off* the Xbox. Why 2?

So if he and one of his 13 cousins want to play different games or watch a movie or whatever. Also if they play two player, player 1 and 2 will have their own screen instead of split screening 7" screens

Those SMD components being burnt so crispy means there are more dead components, it's just not as obvious as this.
Probably best (though expensive) if you bought a completely new inverter...

I would look into the above invertor chargers for you food truck. If your invertor burnt crispy on 1800/12 you will probably need a 2500 or 3000 watt invertor just to be on safe side.

those links provide good starting points to determine your invertor needs. Always and I mean ALWAYS try to go one size up from what you need. So if your needs for your xbox360's and video screens are 1000 look at getting a 1500 or 1800 invertor. If your food truck is saying it needs 1800-2000 look at 3000. Give yourself some head room with the loads you will pushing.

Using inverters myself for years I find most advertise as an example 600Watts, thats peak start up wattage and a 350-400w continuous output.

So it is likely the inverter tripping it's own self protection, because the TV is pulling the inverters max start up wattage and the TV is taking a second or so to long to drop it's wattage once its fired up.

Always see what the continuous power is, and not peak power when buying an inverter
