Acer America today announced the availability of a new $199.99 entry-level model in its new Acer C720 Chromebook line for budget-minded customers. Like all Acer C720 models, the Acer C720-2848 runs on an Intel Celeron processor based on the Haswell micro-architecture to deliver fast performance and up to 8.5 hours of battery life.

"Since the Acer C720 debuted last month, it's been acclaimed for delivering industry-leading performance and long battery life to mobile savvy computer users," said Arif Maskatia, CTO for Acer. "Our new $199.99 model delivers an incredible value proposition for this level of performance at a time of year when so many people are shopping for gifts for loved ones."

Budget-Minded Model Makes a Great Holiday Gift
The Acer C720-2848 is a great option for families and students on a budget who need an effective way to be productive, share Google Docs with study groups, access apps for school, pay bills and stay in touch via social networks. The new C720-2848 Chromebook is powered by an Intel Celeron 2955U processor based on the Intel Haswell micro-architecture, so it delivers fast performance and battery life. The battery keeps customers going for up to 8.5 hours, ideal for all day productivity and fun. The C720-2848 comes with a 16 GB SSD and 2 GB of DDR3 memory.

Thin, Light Design has all the Extras
The Acer C720-2848 Chromebook measures only 0.75-inches, so it is slim enough to fit into a book bag, purse or backpack. It is lightweight at only 2.76 pounds, so it is easy to take to classes, meetings or anywhere to stay in touch. The vibrant 11.6-inch ComfyView HD display has a 1366x768 resolution that keeps websites, images and video crisp and clear.

The Acer C720-2848 features an integrated HD webcam for video chatting as well as capturing video and photos for sharing online. It connects to hotspots and wireless networks quickly via 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi. Plus, the dual speaker design ensures crisp and clear stereo audio for enjoying music, video and more. Connecting to popular consumer electronics devices such as camcorders, digital cameras and smartphones is easy and convenient with the C720's fast USB 3.0 port as well as a USB 2.0 port. It also has an HDMI port for pushing video and content to external displays and HDTVs.

Chromebooks Are Ready to Work and Play
Chromebooks come with popular Google products built in including Search, Gmail, YouTube, and Hangouts, so customers are ready to work, play, and stay connected right out of the box. Acer Chromebook customers are offered up to 100 GB of free Google Drive storage for the first two years after purchase, so files, documents, photos and more are stored safely in the cloud. In addition, Acer C720 models come with Google Play Music All Access and 12 free Gogo Inflight passes to allow customers to stay online even while on a flight.

Pricing, Availability and Warranty
The Acer C720-2848 is available now from Amazon.com and Best Buy for $199.99 in the United States. It will be available at the Acer Store in December. The new Acer C720-2848 comes with a standard one-year parts and labor warranty, which can be extended to three years with the Acer Advantage service. All Acer Chromebooks are backed by toll-free service and support.

Can't these be BIOS flashed to run windows?

I hope they are good for running better builds of Linux than what comes stock. Acer usually throws in terrible bloatware in their Linux products.

Why does the PR shot hide the keyboard/screen and just show a lid with branding? Doesnt sell the product does it? Might as well just put an ASUS logo and a Chrome logo.

Chromebooks have no other use than in education, pretty much a thin client with a small flash drive and a very stripped out Linux shell running Chrome, there isn't enough flash memory or RAM to run Windows.
