Win7 retains clock from sleep time

For example, if the computer sleeps at 8:30 PM on the 10th, and I wake it up on the 11th at 2, it will show 8:30 on the 10th. Clock runs fine while the computer is on, but as soon as it sleeps, the clock stops right where it was at the time and doesn't start again until the computer does. I replaced the CMOS battery, no dice. This is just a Win7 install on an Asus Hero mobo.

It's driving me insane! Any ideas?

Check and see if there are any BIOS updates available which corresponds to your issue.

Sounds like a hardware or BIOS fault to me. Check for bios updates like itsakjt said.

Does it happen if you do a full shutdown and then restart it several hours later?

I've checked for newer BIOS versions and it's on the latest already.

qubit, I haven't noticed when shutting it down. I don't usually shut it down.

Ok then, try this and let us know as it might help us to troubleshoot the problem. Basically if it still happens, it sounds like a faulty mobo, specifically the cmos ram / clock chip.

Ok, here's a weird thing. I went into the settings to change the server it was connecting to for time, and when I hit update now, I got an error "Unable to start the Windows Time service. Please try again later."

When I go to services and try to start it manually, I got an error that the log on account was different from other users or some bull. I changed it to the NT Authority local system, and was able to start the service. However, when I shut down the computer it still retains the time from when it was shut down. So Qubit, sleeping and shutting it down does the same thing.

When I reboot and go into services, the Windows Time service is shut down. I have to start it manually.

I'm out of ideas.

Oh damn, I meant to suggest the following: correct the clock, shut it down (not sleep mode) for an hour or two, then turn it on and go straight into the BIOS, no Windows. Is the time correct?

From what you've said in your last post, this sounds like a Windows problem, so I'll expect the BIOS time to be correct. This is good, as it's a mere software problem rather than a hardware one. We'll take it from there.

Ok just did the test. Synced time which worked, then shut it down at 7:30 PM. Restarted at 8:30 and entered BIOS, time said 19:29, which of course is 7:30.

Sigh. This board is like a month old. I'm not even sure I can RMA it.

Ok, so it may be a hardware problem. Try leaving it for more than two hours to ensure that it isn't a daylight savings time problem and repeat the test.

Another thing to do is rummage around the BIOS and look for anything to do with time settings, especially a DST flag which may be tripping it up.

If the mobo really is faulty, then why do you think you can't RMA it? Most new products have at least 12 months warranty on them wherever you live.

make sure your S states are working right what do you have it on S3 S4 or S1 sleep states? Try different ones.

I don't think it's sleep states, because the problem is happening even when the OP does a shutdown. Check my last couple of posts back to him for troubleshooting suggestions.

It's an interesting one, I'll tell you that.
