damge of ESD to mobo

I touch the plugged and working AVR (metal), I feel ground (shock) in my hands but I forgot it and inspect my new mobo (with ESD resistant 3x) . But before I touch the mobo, I touch the antistatic bag first. Did I damaged the mobo with ESD? Im little worried.

Unless you felt a static between your hands and the mobo I don't think so. Just remember, the outside of the antistatic bag is where all the static collects; hence why the parts are inside it.

It would take a lot of static to fry a motherboard. If you don't see any visually damage you will most likely be fine.

i've kicked CPU's across the carpet, and built entire PC's on carpet with cat hair on it. no damage was ever done.


a Q6600 that i jumped up and down and kicked across a room into a wall, thinking it was dead (was in fact, thermal paste on the contact pads) is still powering a system to this day.

Not exactly, ESD risk is real for a small part of the population, it's depend of the electric potential of your body.
There was several years, i was very affected by ESD, and I killed a bunch a motherboards just by touching them, and i was forced to wear an anti-static strap permanently. I also killed audio hardware, keyboards and mices (trought the plastic) just by touching them. I't not exactly as if I'm a noob for pc assembly, I started computing 25 years ago.
Several months after, i discovered my stomac had a very low pH (and so my body acted exactly like a positive battery terminal), I only change my usual drinking watter and the problem disappeared.

theres a chance but i guess it will be ok, you should no worry since today hardware made better than previous generation
and i never experience kill any hardware coz of esd

Boot it up and see, if dead check all grounding points and connections, then go from there

Interesting find. I always don't like Fleece jackets or polyester jogging pants, they are static current magnets. Dry skin is also a problem to get more static, best is body lotion.

I hate carpet and for this reason and having a dog, I changed to laminate flooring.

Newer mobos are better made and can withstand static better. Like others said try it out.

I've killed memory, audio, and USB ports with static, but the dry cold weather isn't exactly something that everyone experiences. If you didn't feel a shock when touching the board, should be no problem. Felt/saw the sock, chances are slim, really, but if you touched something sensitive, then maybe. Nearly every board on the market today has ESD protection built into USB ports, and if you do have enough static to kill something, just that port, or set of ports will stop working when fuse is blown. Most boards released in the past 18 months have per-port protection, so you only lose that specific port.
