Hi all,

Need some friendly advice on building a new rig but need to build a matx or itx. I have a budget of £700 max, I currently have a ASUS GTX760 & 250gb Samsung evo ssd.

Thinking of getting
Intel i5 4670k
Corsair h100i
8 gb corsair 1866
750w cosair RM Fully modular

I'm stuck on the case and mobo I was originally thinking of corsair obsidian 250d and the Asus Z97I-PLUS, Z97, Itx.
But the thing is corsair is releasing the Corsair Carbide Air 240 and I must admit It looks awesome that means for the mobo I would get the: Asus MAXIMUS VII GENE, Z97, Matx .

Hello,

One thing I would suggest is if you're not planning on doing SLI, you can save a bit of money and get a Corsair RM 550W instead - this would be fine for a single GTX 780 if you needed to upgrade. I think the Corsair 250D is a good case choice, although I think the Carbide Air 240 looks very promising too. In my experience, unless you get a proper m-ITX case, it would seem a lot of m-ATX cases are a similar size to mini-ITX cases anyway, especially the high-end hardware oriented cases, so choose whichever one you like I guess.

Hello Layton,

the difference in price between a 550w RM and a 750 RM is only £7.
Just brought a GTX760 about 4 months ago so if I decided to go the matx I might SLI eventually. But if I go for the ITX I might go for a better GPU.
It Depends on the case size of the Carbide air 240.
I also want to know what Intel ITX Board people would go for?
As there are not many reviews for the Z97 ITX boards.

I can't say for Z97 ITX boards, but I have an ITX Z77I-Deluxe from Asus. I've had that matched with an i5-3570k for a bit over a year and a half and it has been running at 4.4ghz all this time without any problems. I was really impressed I achieved that OC on an ITX board. So if it were me, I'd stick with Asus for ITX boards.

If you are considering the Air 240 you might want to look at the Node 804 too. Similar design but a little wider to fit more drives and more cooling options and also has 5 expansion slots. It can also house a slim optical drive if you need.
Although it sounds like you are pretty set on Corsair designs so up to you.
