Worth Upgrading Monitor? Dell 2407WFP

I was wondering whether or not I should upgrade in the future. I currently own a Dell 2407WFP (anandtech.com review/spec). It uses a S-PVA TFT LCD panel, with a 1920x1200 resolution in a 24" size. In 2006, it would've been a beast of a monitor. Today, it would be considered decent/alright for professional use. Unfortunately, I am no professional. I am a gamer! Yeah, I multitask and occasionally touch Photoshop, but I mostly play games to kill time. That means I should like small response times, (where affordable) high refresh rates and 16:9 ratios. But is it actually worth swapping a working 1200p monitor for a smaller gaming monitor. Will I notice the response time difference? Will I notice colour inaccuracy from a TN panel?

Are you referring to a Qnix QX2710. I don't think my GTX 670 can handle 1440p and an IPS panel means poor response time and limitations to the Max OC, which can only be 80-90Hz in some situations. Also to mention they still aren't too cheap. Did you have any other monitors in mind when you said 27" overclockable?

Dell Ultrasharp's are great monitors, I have/had a few of them- If you're happy with it than stick with it.

Otherwise, consider the newer monitors with LED backlights since they use 50% of the power that our older Ultrasharp's use!

Korean panels in general. IPS doesn't mean poor response time at this time and date at all as pretty much any IPS comes way below 16ms which is more than fine even with input lag and other factors added in, and when 60 HZ is fine why are you concerned about 80-90 HZ? You do realize 80-90 HZ is pretty impressive for an LCD, right?

That said they obviously aren't too cheap yes. There are other Korean monitors around like Kogan which you can find in Australia.

I have an IPS from at least 2 years ago, with a higher measured G2G response time (most of the advertised responses are grey to grey)...good luck noticing any real difference. I believe mine is rated at 8ms, and comparing A|B to my 2ms Asus TN panel, I notice no issues in lag/ghosting/anything "feared" about IPS being slower. Even comparing my Asus to my Samsung 1080P IPS 32" TV I noticed no issues with lag. I think people find it convenient to forget that 100ms is 1/10th of a second. So being less than 1/100th of a second is going to be pretty damn tough to perceive...even for those that proclaim to be more sensitive to such things. This is my experienced opinion from years in this field, take it with a grain of salt, but understand too many people get too picky about the little aspects, the extra BS that you'll use or play with or "try" to notice for the first short time you own that piece and then it's just a visual utility to access your PC again. The extras you want now won't matter in two weeks beyond bragging rights.

Modern monitors are very impressive, 60Hz is good for me...I don't need 3D nor are worried about modern sync technologies yet...too new. Dell monitors are pretty damn good in this market. There are plenty of options, you need to go with the one that works best for you...it's tough should you not be able to test them at a storefront. In that case I would recommend Dell monitors in the IPS class hands down just because of my years of experience with them. Many LED TN panels are good too if you feel you must have the fastest of fast response times. It's really tough to go wrong right now imho.

I'm still using my Dell 2405WFP and it is still a fine monitor, i use the component inputs to connect my pioneer dvd player too.

Kursah. Thanks for that massive explanation on noticing response time difference. My main incentive for a change in monitor is the use of 1080p over 1200p, as it is a much more universal resolution, gives me better FPS and recordings fit on the display of almost everyone else. Not entirely that I hope to go from 6ms to 1ms.

Yeah. I use those component ports for a JTAG Xbox 360. Hopefully any future replacement monitor may have HDMI

And after all it's your money. You can rather buy a frankly, shitty BenQ with a TN panel or an overclockable IPS 27 incher. And they don't sell for much more than $350, in fact, they pretty much sell for that much but I'm not entirely grasped on their Australian prices.

Look! I absolutely love 1440p! It is my favourite resolution as it is the balance between quality and performance when powered by the higher end rigs. Unfortunately, I am already struggling to run games on ultra with AA at 1200p. I cant run a variety of games maxed these days. The future will only mean lower FPS. I dream of owning a 4K or QHD setup, but my wallet doesn't allow me. This thread was more to ask if I need upgrading than actually give me serious monitor suggestions. I feel that I need a 2nd card or go team red to be able to power games at BETTER quality with a similar FPS.
I feel that 1920 based resolutions already provide the pixels for my multitasking anyway.

i have the same monitor,and realy old gpu(hd 4890) and i have hard time playing games at 1200p,but gtx 670.. i mean come on ...stop bulshiting
my bro have gtx 660 ti and have no problem playing most games play at FHD and max setings and playable FPS
