Well that is also because they are designing it for 4k and its going to be one of the first truly 4k games out there.

Do you? There is a difference if it uses all vram and actually need that much. Its a texture streaming thing, fill as much as it can then stream on the fly.

Check various 4K benchmark reviews, 780ti surpasses Titan with 3gb more vram because it has faster per core performance, even by min fps.

This, games made with Frostbite engine will pretty much take all the memory you can give it, but its not actually using it like you think from what I understand.

Yeah its actually by any game lately, older pre 2009 still use fixed textures ie Skyrim, now its all going to streaming, I think 3gb will be enough for at least another 2 years at reasonable reso, gpu will ran out of horsepower sooner..

thats what i upgraded from, and despite benchmarks (that ran under 1GB, due to that being common at the time) providing similar results, in game was a whole different experience.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the 4GB on my 290(s) getting used heavily. At 1600p, at least 90% of my gaming breaks the 2GB barrier, and about 75% of that goes beyond 3GB.

pleasantly surprised? Id rather be peasantly surprised and have as little of the ram as possible being used.

GTX 770 2GB with 1080P experience has been great. I turn down some settings to get smoother gameplay on some games but I can't really a tell a major difference anyway.

I do play more than just Skyrim. but it is the baine of my time. My 2 gigs vram is holding me back from installing the mods I really want. I have been ever so impatiently waiting until some of the 3 or maybe even 4 gig cards come down. I have looked into crossfire as being the solution but the 7870 xt's (Tahiti le) are getting more rare by the day. Even if the other Tahiti's work (7950) Id rather just a single card solution as I only have the one 1080p monitor. Once I get a bit more cash flow I will upgrade but only because I want to push Skyrim a little further. And/or a higher resolution monitor. The thing is by the time I get both a new card and a new monitor the texture mods for the Elderscrolls 6 will be hitting the Nexus.

I think you could get a 2nd hand reference Radeon 290 for a decent price. Slap some aftermarket cooler on it and you have an awesome card that will do for most of the games you might want to play.

I know eh! <- Ha Ha Cdn stereotype. Thing is when the 6 gig cards hit they will undoubtedly be the flagship models. Which I will need to wait two yrs to pay for anyway. I have always been 1 gen behind. It's just so hard to justify the cost. You have a very valid point thou. I almost jumped when you got your 770. Trouble is, making the jump without knowing what 6 months will bring let alone 2 yrs. It's a vicious cycle that I have yet to get used to.
For now I'm happy with the overall performance of my card I just wish there was a way to add more vram to it.

Its not actually worth getting one unless you use them in SLI though.
