Worldwide PC monitor shipments totaled 32.5 million units in the second quarter of 2014 (2Q14), a year-over-year decline of -2.9%, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly PC Monitor Tracker. IDC expects worldwide shipments to continue on their current trajectory, slipping to 107 million units for the full year 2018.

"Despite the overall decline, there was a strong quarter-over-quarter growth rate of 11% in the United States and a slight increase in PC Monitor shipments in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan)(APeJ). In addition, the shipment totals were stronger than forecast by 4%," said Keerthi Maganti, Research Analyst, Worldwide PC Monitor Trackers at IDC.

Quite honestly, this isn't a surprise. We've been at 1080p forever, and monitors have become very reliable. Without an incentive to buy more, we are at saturation in the market.

Very reliable?? Really?

I was hoping that you would say that monitors companies caused this stagnation by not providing any evolution like faster 4K adoption.

Come on, you, sleeping guys! Wake up!

Unsurprisingly as customers are maybe waiting for better bigger faster 4K+ monitors. Now using Dell 30" which is getting a bit restricting by the time, I'm waiting for at least 34" in 16:10 resolution. Cannot find any. Don't like 21:9 or multi monitor configs.
Isn't there a correlation between PC monitors and other hardware sales? Why buying a new platform like X99, GTX 980, if there's no appropriate monitor.
As well as the inacceptable delay of GTA V PC. In my case I'll skip any upgrades until the physical GTA V release.

Well, it definately could include that as well, since pushing the adoption of new resolutions would spur monitor sales. But bottom line also, if it is still working, the average user, which is 95% of consumers, is not going to buy a new monitor.

I find I just can't game from what to me is a "lazy" position. I need to sit at a desk. I feel more in control and immersed, and immersion is key for me. I do, however use my HTPC in the living room for surfing on the internet.
