The new release is only compatible with the 64-bit variant of Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system

AMD has rolled out a new version of its graphics driver, namely the Catalyst OpenCL 2.0 version 14.41 RC 1, which adds support for OpenCL 2.0 Core features and is compatible only with the 64-bit variant of Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system.

In order to be clear, the new driver supports specific OpenCL 2.0 features, such as shared virtual memory (Coarse Grain), C1x atomics and memory ordering, pipes, program scope variables, images, and subgroups.

Moreover, the generic address space, flexible ND-range, and dynamic parallelism features, as well as new built-in functions and precision for math built-in native functions are also supported by the present release.

When it comes to compatible products, the 14.41 RC 1 version can be applied on some of AMD’s desktop and notebook graphics cards, as well as on certain APUs (check the description page for a full list of suitable device models).

However, AMD’s latest release still experiences some issues, namely Multi-GPUs and CPU Conformance are not supported on OpenCL 2.0, and the Adobe Premiere Pro 2014 application might hang occasionally during use.

In addition to that, be aware that the system might also encounter some graphics corruptions and artifacts when running Sandra subtest bandwidth.

With this in mind, if you intend to upgrade to the latest Catalyst version,
download AMD Catalyst OpenCL 2.0 Graphics Driver 14.41 RC 1, apply it on a computer powered by the 64-bit version of Windows 8.1, and enjoy your newly improved video chipset.

Wan't sure where to post this but since its the first OpenCL 2.0 driver to be released by AMD I've posted it in this section, @mods feel free to move/delete the thread if it doesn't belong here.

Quote from over at AMD Developer Central forum by forum mod, jtrudeau... posted 9/25/2014:

AMD has released its first fully-functional OpenCL 2.0 driver aimed at early adopter developers. We’re not broadly promoting this driver because we have a performance-optimized driver coming out shortly and we suggest you wait for that version. We plan to release a new SDK when the updated driver becomes available to help developers come up to speed. That said, we welcome any feedback from the community who are interested in test-driving this version of the driver.
As for the SVM capabilities, this driver fully supports the core OpenCL 2.0 features - including course-grained SVM. AMD has not yet publicly disclosed plans for OpenCL 2.0 optional features - stay tuned for further details.

Also, on the same page is a driver for 64 bit Linux variants, if you need it.

Linux Distributions:
  • Red Hat Enterprise 6.5 (64-bit version)
  • Ubuntu 14.04 (64-bit version)
