I was thinking about buying a new 5820K with a NH-D15 for cooling. But will it fit with a Silverstone RV02, Crucial Sport DDR4 Dual, ASUS X99-S and 2 GTX 970 G1 Gaming? Or should i go for the U14S instead?

RV02 says 169mm for CPU coolers. The NH-D15 is 165mm in height. That memory is lower profile so no real issues there either. The motherboard cooling could play up with the cooler, but I was able to use the D15 with the Sabertooth Z87 without clearance issues, and its similar in how it blocks most of the area around the CPU socket.

Oh thank's . So that memory is low profile?

Like stated above you should be able to fit it inside that machine!

Yes the Crucial modules are low profile pretty much exclusively overall including those so you can fit most coolers on top over that. In fact on all the DDR4 modules with the exception of Gskill (ATM unless i've missed one) they are all low profile on the heatspreaders because the need for extra cooling on such low power modules is a lot less.

Note I said LOWER profile, not low-profile. As GhostRyder hits on, it will have no issues under coolers like the TridentX flames or Corsair Dominator spreaders can be, where things really get inconvenient for air cooling.

I see! Is it worth the extra money on the D15 over the U14S?

To be real honest, there is only a degree or two difference.

I do not have both coolers on the same list, but in one test of the U14 it beat one of the crossover coolers that made both lists by two degrees. On my newer charts, that same crossover cooler was beat by three degrees by the D15. The difference appears to be ~$20 US. I would take the U14s and grab a second fan ( if that difference matters) and you will be really close to the performance of the D15 out of the box, but then you are in the same cost range for both coolers anyways.

So it's not really worth it then? But how can there be such a small difference when D15 got "almost" dubble the theoretical cooling performance?

it happens, there is a lot more that goes into cooler design than just specifically looking at the fin surface area.

Which one should i go for then, the 14s or 15? :)

Well the D15 has the option to add a third fan and reduce overall temps another couple of degrees. Both are silent. Both use the same hardware to mount. If you don't plan to try to take that unlocked processor to hell and back, I'd say the 14S should suffice.

I will take it the the center of a quasar so parhaps the D15 is the best choice, hehe. It's only the space i am worried about.

The D15 is the best air cooler I have tested to date! As far as I am concerned, the only thing more capable is a large AIO or custom water, and with your chassis, water cooling is not so easy to accomplish. I think you are on the right path here!

FYI the included NF-A15 fan/s on NH-U14S & NH-D15 are 1500rpm, but the NF-A15 fans we can buy are only 1200rpm .. making them less effective as a 2nd or 3rd fan on above coolers.
