LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled its new 4K Monitor (model 31MU97) for global rollout starting this week. The cutting-edge LG 31MU97 mates Digital Cinema 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution with a 31-inch IPS monitor to create an ultra-sharp high-end monitor that meets the standards of the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI). The LG 31MU97 is especially well suited for professionals who demand the sharpest possible images for either work or leisure.

The monitor's ultra-high quality 4K resolution and life-like colors are ideal for photographers, video editors and graphic artists and its incredible picture quality allows for detailed and accurate retouching of any image. With the monitor's rich and vibrant colors and impressive 10-bit color, visual arts professionals will greatly appreciate the model's high color accuracy.

The monitor's IPS display supports over 99.5 percent of the Adobe RGB color space and provides users with several coloring options and modes in order to meet the wide spectrum of needs that graphic professionals require. Its Dual Color Space allows the monitor to display two different color modes at once so that users can compare different perspectives of their work simultaneously. Additionally, the Digital Cinema 4K Monitor comes hardware calibration-ready with LG's exclusive True Color Pro software.

The LG 31MU97 is equipped with several unique high-end functions that will satisfy most discerning professionals. Video pros can edit 4K content in the ideal resolution with standard Digital Cinema 4K without image scaling. Editing footage with full color expression is made possible by the DCI color standard support which reproduces color realistically, covering 97 percent of DCI-P3 color space, the standard for digital cinema projectors and digital camera. And the LG 31MU97 comes with an ergonomic pivot design that offers maximum convenience for displaying as much of the image on the screen as possible to minimize scrolling and dragging.

"LG's Digital Cinema 4K Monitor presents the company with an excellent opportunity to solidify our leadership in the global professional monitor market," said Hyoung-sei Park, head of the IT business division at LG Electronics. "This monitor's high-end features and functions make it the perfect solution for professionals who require a top-of-the-line monitor with all the technology currently available."

The LG 31MU97 will be available starting this week in markets including the United States, South Korea, Germany, Australia and the UK followed by the Netherlands, Spain, Poland and Japan in November.

Personally, I think I'd like to find out whether the panel is tiled or not before shelling out $US1400 for a monitor.

We need to sue them for discrimination. How is it possible to sell something only in specific markets?

Fix your writing first before pretending anything, you hollow! :D:laugh:
Let me...
The LG 31MU97 will be available starting this week in markets including the United States, South Korea, Germany, Australia and the UK followed by the Netherlands, Spain, Poland and Japan in November.
Nominal GDP world rank in 2012 by the UN:
United States: #1 @ 16,244,600 USD
Japan: #3: 5,960,180 USD
Germany: #4 @ 3,425,956 USD
UK: #6 @ 2,471,600 USD
South Korea: #15 @ 1,129,598 USD

These are the markets the display are going to start in. Hate to burst your bubble but between these 5 countries, they account for 40% of the worlds nominal GDP. They're selling where the money is at. So almost half of the worlds wealth is concentrated in these markets.
We need to sue them for discrimination. How is it possible to sell something only in specific markets?
...because releasing to markets that have poor infrastructure and consumer spending compared to the countries with leading nominal GDPs would be less profitable. LG is starting with the most lucrative markets. This kind of thing happens all the time in the US as a country with a leading GDP. Clearly it has its advantages (like this).

You gotta kidding me, right?

Even if your point has some sense (in which case it actually has not), you miss countries number 2, 5, 7, etc.

It's not tiled, new panel, they won't make tiled panels now it would be retarded.

What's your point? Since when did China, France, and Brazil become leading consumers of high resolution displays? Also laws and taxes can dictate markets as well as vendors that already have agreements with LG.

I do have a point and you're just being a dick. Tone it down a bit.

Yes, but as a computer monitor I would rather use DisplayPort, not HDMI. I would agree with your concern if this were a TV.

Benchmark Scores A lot.
The LG manual states that the 31MU97 only supports 24Hz for the 4K resolution (4096x2160) or 30Hz for Quad-HD resolution (3840x2160) over HDMI hinting it is only HDMI 1.4 and NOT (!) HDMI 2.0. Refresh rates up to 60Hz are only supported with DP connection (probably only DP 1.2) up to its full resolution of 4096x2160.

The lack of current-gen interfaces is a bit disappointing, but +1 for having full 4K (4096x2160) instead of Quad-HD (3840x2160)! :)
I would've liked a 16:10 aspect ratio (4096x2560), but it seems that no one else is interested in this aspect ratio anymore these days... :(

Guess you want to sue MS and Sony for only launching their consoles in certain countries...
