To add onto what I said previously about Microsoft, and Microsoft Stores not caring about PC gamers:

Major Nelson came to my work and talked to us about the ONE when it was launching. He went around the room and asked what kind of gamers we had there, and of course everyone said XBOX. He asked us individually what their favorite thing was that they learned about ONE, and what everyone was looking forward playing the most. I stood up and said "Hi, I'm a PC gamer, and this is irrelevant to me". He looked shocked and asked me what it would take for me to play on an xbox, and I said "keyboard and mouse". Ever since then, if anyone came in asking about PC Gaming, guess who they were referred to. LOL. Man the look on his face was priceless!

You see this is the reason I love when PC gamers gets shafted, and I hope it continues.

Honestly though I doubt it will, because regardless what people are saying MS ARE changing.

Besides the acquisition of Nokia hardware and taking two and a half years to give us the damn start menu back, no, Microsoft isn't changing. On the gaming side of things, Konami has changed more than Microsoft by bringing Metal Gear Solid back to Windows after having left after MGS2. The only Halo title we got recently was Spartan Assault which is a low budget, Marketplace title.

I'll just leave this here, and then we can safely assume anything said by any MS employeee about PC gaming can be disregarded for future reference until infinity

Quality post right there. I'm sick of MS supporting PC gaming by pushing the Xbox.

I don't understand everyone's butt hurt towards Microsoft's stance on PC Gaming. I really don't.

How can you really blame them for putting more of their time into their gaming/entertainment device when that is where most of the money is coming from for that division.

Maybe I just don't care as much as the rest of you. When Microsoft mentions anything about PC Gaming, and gaming on Windows, I just think yeah okay Microsoft and move on.

As long as I can still play games on their Windows OS then im not worried about it.

Yeah, but you're biased.. You know, working for Microsoft and all. There's a conflict of interest here and a spewing of bullshit in regards to PC gaming from Microsoft.

Hopefully the consoles having Direct X will make them try harder, its the standard API pretty much. As far as games go i just feel like whatever i need solid proof in the form of real games, its not the 90s anymore where Microsoft actually gave a crap about pc gaming.

As the years go by, MS' support for PC gaming gets worse.

Can you honestly say that MS would have considered offering the closer to the metal Dx12 features if AMD didn't push their own feature set Mantle?

The reason for the negativity about MS and PC gaming is fairly simple: they constantly talk about how supportive they are going to be of PC gaming, then promptly turn around and conveniently forget, or seemingly work against us. They deliberately tie DX upgrades to OS upgrades, which is disingenuous to say the least. They have completely botched the whole GFWL thing, and I couldn't tell you which games still work and which don't.

We're not saying Ms needs to have their own PC games sold in equal quantities to us as Xbones are sold. Just stop acting as if we are the annoying, smelly uncle that came down from the attic, but that you have to be somewhat nice to because he has an inheritance for you. Recognize that PC gaming is vibrant, and that the world doesn't revolve around consoles. It was only because of AMD that MS even bothered with DX 12.

With MS attitude toward PC gaming so negative, just how long WILL it be before you CAN'T play games on your Windows OS? Windows 11? Windows 12?

The only way they would be able to stop people gaming on Windows is to stop updating Direct X, then that would force developers to move another API. You can't lock out gaming as its just a program.

Yeah when you see things like this it makes it clear that even if they DID turn over a new leaf, which I'm doubtful of, it would literally take them an entire console life cycle to glean what it is about PC gamers that makes them despise MS.

To me it's more than just lack of control options and games being biased toward console and poorly ported to PC. The final straw for me was MS and Sony trying to force their will on devs to dumb down the PC versions of multi plat titles.

Seriously though MX, butt hurt? That makes it all the more obvious that too many Xbox passivists and converts are the problem. The sheer apathy is what causes this in the first place. My butt ain't hurtin bro, I'm just a realist. You though? Maybe too much time on the motor bike, or worse?

Using net kiddie slang that's akin to console fanboys just tends to make it all the more obvious. Suffice it to say that if you can't see MS' blatant disingenuous nature by now, you'll never get the point. They should never have been co founders of the PC Gaming Alliance in the first place, because their hearts aren't in it.

I knew this would be the reaction when MxPhenom 216 dropped his post in #81. What he said isn't pleasant but it's true. For corps like MS and Ubisoft PC gamers are a fringe group as far as profits go.

After rtwjunkie, it gave me a decent summary as to why there's a backlash from the gaming community towards Microsoft stance on PC Gaming.

However, what I am getting at now is the fact that so many people complain about it on forums and what not, yet at the same time their computers run Microsoft software (Windows) etc. If people truly felt the way they do about Microsoft and their blatent lies to our faces about PC Gaming, I would expect a lot more people to move to Linux, or stop upgrading their OS every time their is a new release till maybe we see Microsoft walk the walk, that they have been failing to do so for the last 10 or so years.

Seriously though, Microsoft is a corporation, and corporations typically go to where the money is. PC Gamers are a small percent of the entire gaming industry, and the rest is coming from consoles.

Erocker is probably right, I am bias towards Microsoft, having worked there, but I don't care enough about gaming in general to be all up in arms about it.

Was expecting you to be upset at what I said, I need to tone it down some. I'm just very put off by the "butt hurt" thing.

Looks like I had it about right though. A lot of people only care that MS having the best game compatibility is good enough, and are apathetic otherwise.

To me it's a bit disingenuous for them to talk on issues like Dx and gaming in general as if they're stewards of PC gaming merely because most people use their OS, which is really the only reason it's so gaming compatible. It's not just that they've opened it up to PC gaming, they've opened it up to EVRERYONE, purely for profit reasons.

If it were a stewardship thing PC gaming wise, clearly they'd have been more responsible. Even now when they claim to be acknowledging that, they're still referring to Dx12 improvements mostly regarding how it will affect Xone performance. And to the one whom stated DirectX has always been THE API, LOL, seriously? Sony has had the low level GNM API in use for a while now. MS are pretty late to the game regarding API efficiency improvements.

Thanks for reading what I tried to put forth in as calm and rational a manner as possible. I have to say, you're right: We don't as a whole, walk the walk, because we don't have any real alternatives yet. Sure there's Linux, and Steam OS eventually, but until those play every game as seamlessly as Windows does, they aren't real options. And, MS is basically a brilliant company. I like Windows in general.

PC Gamers are a small percent of the entire gaming industry, and the rest is coming from consoles.

I think you'd be surprised at just how much money PC gaming generates. It's a cash cow if MS would just open their eyes. Valve saw that, and because they have so much of the PC gaming world behind them, they are one of the few entities that can get MS attention. It's not so small.

MS makes money off Xbone titles, and none off PC titles as DX is kind of an open platform for everyone to code on, as is OpenGL.
So in our eyes, its MS makes a OS, and while that is great and we pay for it, they need to stop with the GFWL bullshit, we are asking for DX to be separate from Windows, hell if I could keep Windows 7, and pay $20 to upgrade DX libraries and $20 for a complete codec and better media player I would.

Win 8 was a flop for its interface, so we aren't buying that, its compatibility issues was a PITA, so we don't want that.

Meanwhile we have Apple selling the hardware, and the OS is free, total reverse, and Linux giving away the software if you w8ll buy the hardware, but some things don't play well together without doing research, which for some people they don't want to. So really MS is taking the worst of all worlds approach here, sell the proprietary hardware, take a cut of the game, give away free but limited software that is a one trick pony, and then covering it in lube by making some games for it alone and try to ram it up the gamers ass while asking how we like it.

What we want is a open development platform for both peasant boxes, that low and behold, also works well on the PC as they are the same exact architecture giver or take some rendering and processing power. Charge me for DX12 to fit my paid for copy of Win7, charge me for upgrades I care about, but stop trying to force your console on me.

I think you'd be surprised at just how much money PC gaming generates. It's a cash cow if MS would just open their eyes.

I dont get what you are trying to to say or from which angle you are coming from.

I, being a PC gamer, dont agree with you on any level.

Consoles are the real cash cow. PC community is an absolute nothing compared to console community.

Please correct me (if you can) and I am being humble. :)

There can only be one cash cow in the barn? If I'm running a business, I want BOTH cows. :D Why are you under the impression there is not a boatload of money being handed over for PC games? Not on the same level as consoles, but much more than you give yourself and every other PC gamer credit for. Go ask Valve how much money they are making off of PC games.

Stop comparing Valve to Microsoft.

Go ask how much Microsoft is making off consoles/everything revolving around them.

You see now?.

I'm not comparing...what I'm saying is there are two cows. One may be a prizewinner and outweigh the other by several hundred pounds, but they both produce money. The smart business finds a way to make money off of both instead of only using one. Their loss is another company's gain. They could have done what valve did with GFWL, and made a hell of a lot more money than they are making now. It never has to be one or the other.

GFWL was never meant to be a competitor to valve, it was meant as the band aid between consoles and PC's, but after the rape of console players during testing by PC players, it got ripped away quickly and became a bullshit points system that never went anywhere, and no one used for chat.

Valve, former MS employees, have proven that PC gaming can be profitable if you just make is accessible by ways more than just putting them on the most used OS.
