Wow, defensive much.
The original post by Sony stated that the big Maxwell die would supposedly have problems reaching a 8370 3DM Firestrike Extreme score. I pointed out that the score is within reach of the 980.

If you were going for "Fanboy Knee-jerk Overreaction", then congratulations. Achievement unlocked.

Valid leaks usually have some form of corroborating proof - pictures (even if pixellized and markings obscured), or benchmark screenshots or validation. This and the previous Chiphell charts are IMO just clickbait. The number might be representative of a production card, but I'd doubt that drivers are mature enough to give perfect scaling months out from release.

That was a pretty standard sarcastic reply by message board standards ( mine at least) and yet you instantly pull out the fanboy card, hoping what ? that the thread will descend into a VS debate where you are at home ? Lets all just have some speculation fun and wait for release benchmarks.

Please see the fine print in my sig. Truth in advertising...and my replies are generally a reflection the tone of the people I'm responding to. Feeling hurt? allow me!
and yet you instantly pull out the fanboy card, hoping what ?
Maybe that the poster takes the hint in future and responds to the content of the posts being replied to, rather than jump straight into straw man territory.
Lets all just have some speculation fun and wait for release benchmarks.
Which you could have done...but chose instead to just criticise my demeanour, and make an incorrect assumption. So, shall we all follow your example.....or your advice? So far they are mutually exclusive concepts. I at least, attempted to at least stay on topic.

There seems to be a difference between "We're putting finishing touches...." and "We're still putting finishing touches...."
;)

Either way, I'm excited about it.

Give me wall plug melting power draw just to piss the tree huggers off

I LOL'd pretty good with that one

I'm looking forward to these cards! :)

Damn I just bought a GTX 980 and im a Radeon fan :-(

That's if these leaked future mark scores are to be true of course.

We as customers must accept this, if we have 2-3 competitors in market then benefits will be ours only. If one leads away then benefits gonna shifts to manufacturer not customer, as we have to pay what they offer not what we want. Nvidia prices came down mostly due to market pressure and technology upgradation. Same thing we must expect form both without favoring any side. Else we will see more titans and 780ti's which are way costly but in terms of Value they must not be that costly.

With Launch of 970 nvidia has given best example for value against performance, if same thing gonna happen from both sides in future too then we will get best value for our spending.

You payed 550$ for the very small performance increase over cards that cost 300-330$. Doesn't seem like something a Radeon fan will do. You done goofed.
$300-330 doesn't buy much of a Graphics card in Australia, that is still top of the lower tier, bottom of mid range cards.
Top tier cards like the GTX 980 are around $800 plus.

It'd be great to see AMD put something solid out, but keep in mind they only have to beat a mid-tier Maxwell GPU. Nvidia will follow up, in due season, with the full Maxwell architecture, so I wouldn't get too excited until the dust settles following this round of tit for tat.

:wtf: AMD already has a GPU out and it's called the 290X

And doesn't AMD already beat a mid tier Nvidia card! no? :twitch:

I have benchmarks to prove it so wheres that comment coming from?

This time the tit for tat is going to be in AMD's favor but yeah as always thats just imo :pimp:

The 980 is very heavily overclocked.

Anyways, more likely I meant that the top-tier Maxwell would have troubles comfortably beating the R9 380X. Or 'dealing' (not reaching) with it.

Yeah was running 2x 290s and it was a great setup. Didn't hear much about the new Radeon cards so pulled the pin on the 980.

As it turns out the 1x980 keeps up with 2x290s. No quite but close.

Was after less heat and power matey so....

Most of TPU's Performance Summary charts put the GTX 980 ahead of the 290X. Even if they were even, the GTX 980 draws much less power and produces less heat, so all-round performance is better. You don't just judge a car's performance based on engine size, do you? You gotta look at the other aspects.

And doesn't AMD already beat a mid tier Nvidia card! no? :twitch:

Only by using their best, top-tier Hawaii GPUs. Remember mid-tier vs top-tier. AMD put forward their best against Nvidias mid-tier GPUs. And not that it probably matters to you, but again, AMDs cards use more power, produce more heat.

I have benchmarks to prove it so wheres that comment coming from?

Multiple reviews from major sites. As with most reviews, game, driver and clock dependent, among other things.

This time the tit for tat is going to be in AMD's favor but yeah as always thats just imo :pimp:

As cool as it would be for AMD to 'win' a generational round, I don't see it likely. They can take the performance crown from the GM204, but Nvidia will quickly reply with something better. AMD has been a step behind for many years, I don't see how they could pull a rabbit out of the hat to stay ahead of Nvidia's full Maxwell architecture. They simply don't have the resources.

Yes it is, and it is very likely a top binned part to maintain those clocks on water. That aside, an 8+K score has been registered by the 980 (and for the record that isn't the highest score for a 980 on water), which is an indicator only for the architecture.
Anyways, more likely I meant that the top-tier Maxwell would have troubles comfortably beating the R9 380X. Or 'dealing' (not reaching) with it.
Well, assuming the leaked specifications are correct, then I am already on record as agreeing with your estimation. Where I don't necessarily agree is that you can extrapolate overall performance of an unreleased card from a single benchmark, especially 3DM Firestrike that tends to favour Nvidia (hence the 980 being able to post 8000+ on water).

that is working on the assumption that they are still months away dude.

i mean it was months back the 1st leak hit the web and then i would agree with your statement, today after amd have finally said it is close (finishing touches) i think it is much closer than people expect.

reading between the lines i think they are going to try and get them out this quarter and not the next as they previously said.

Never take anything anybody says on face value, it is always smoke and mirrors for their competitors. They might be released next week for all anybody knows.

Electricity is not THAT expensive, if a 980 uses 150 W, and the new AMD top card uses 300 W the delta is 150 W, say 4 hours of gaming a day (as you pay your own bills we can assume that you probably have a job) that is 600 wh. lets assume 15 cent for 1 kw then the extra cost per day is 9 cent, x 365 is $33 per year.
This! While heat output and noise is a concern (and those are a function of the power consumption) I never got the concept of "OMZG this card / cpu uses 100W moar and I got no moneyz to pay" but has 1k$ rig. How expensive is electricity in other parts of the world?

PS. Sorry for the off topic

On topic: I am impressed with the numbers (if they are true) and hope the heat output won't require a AIO water cooler for the single card. This might put off a lot of "average" user/gamers

Well, you kinda expect that a new GPU is better than the one that is already one and a half years old...

I would love to have all new powerful cards with water / hybrid cooling as the new standard. This would have advantages and negligible drawbacks.

sony i think the sooner they start to use aio loops on the high end cards the better too.

my 290x gamer was ok with the twn frzrzrzrz thing on it, well bar the fact it bent the pcb like a banana but since i swapped it to a kracken g10 and antec 920 aio it is like a totally different card. so much cooler and quieter. running 1150 on the core even made 1 mate go out and buy another 980 so he was getting more fps xD (yes i have mates like that...)

i never see more than 65c even with it running silent or i can knock another 10c off that and run it loud.

disclaimer before some fanbois chirp up.

yes 1 980 can get better fps than 1 290x when you clock them, but they also run loud and hotter than mine now so it was not an option for this friend.
