Ok I don't really know what the hell is wrong with my PC but I thought maybe someone came across anything like that:

So here is my problem:

I've recently formatted my C: (ssd) drive and reinstalled windows 8.1. My Games are on D: (ssd) drive. What I’ve noticed is when I launch any game my frame rate drops so drastically that the games like BF4, DA:I (all the newset ones) are unplayable I get 16-24 FPS even in games from 1997, it is just a slide show. After I reboot the PC everything comes back to normal! Like nothing ever happened! My FPS is back to - 90-120 FPS I don't understand it. I've tried almost everything! I have turned off Origin/Steam in game, repaired the games, reinstalled the games, run it as administrator, run installator as admin, run origin/steam as admin. Then I thought my integrated GPU might kick in instead of my 780Ti but that isn't the case, I've run disk check-up, disk clean up etc. I've reinstalled GPU drivers, my power options management is set to high perfromance, what am I missing? What didn't I do?

CPU: Intel 3770k:
GPU: nV 780Ti
RAM: 16GB
MB: Z77 ASRock Fatality
PSU: Corsair AX1200i
System: Windows 8.1 64bit

I dont know what else it could be, help

Go to micro$oft.com and dl the dx run times for 9 and 10 and see if that helps.

The power options might be messed up, click change plan settings, then restore default settings for this plan.

do it for all 3 plans balanced, high and power saver

then test.

I also find I need to go manually download dx9 and dx10 for older games, most will install dx9 if the game needs it but the dx10 games seam to rely on windows to already have it. I run older games so this happens to me a lot with missing dx versions or missing c++ updates or outdated drivers I forgot to update

Can you take a look at what processes are running in Task Manager when the game is running slow and see what process that is not the game is occupying the most CPU load and/or memory load? by that I mean something out of the ordinary.

Run afterburner or GPUZ and monitor your clock/memory speeds. When you notice slowdowns check what clockspeed your gpu is running at.

This happened to me on my 970 where gpu would clock down to 2d application clocks and get stuck there and wont revert till i rebooted.

Set your games/gpu power options to perfer max performance in Nvidia control panel and see if it still happens.

Try disabling your A/V and malware software and try it.

That was going to be the other possibility I mentioned. On a new system with new security software, my firewall will usually question me if I want to give control to a game it hasn't seen before, during which time it is slowed or stopped.

You are running two SSDs... which connectors, on the MB, are they plugged into (red or black)?
If you have them in the black... you might wanna move them to red; and, be sure they are set to ahci in the bios.

You touch innards recently?

I took everything out and put back in as I thought some "loose" wire is affecting it - but no results :(

Can you take a look at what processes are running in Task Manager when the game is running slow and see what process that is not the game is occupying the most CPU load and/or memory load? by that I mean something out of the ordinary.

nothing out of ordinary to be honest. Had a quick look in Idle I get like 2-12% CPU usage, Memory is at 7-20% all looks normal, in the first stance (before I reboot) and second stance (After I reboot).

Run afterburner or GPUZ and monitor your clock/memory speeds. When you notice slowdowns check what clockspeed your gpu is running at.

This happened to me on my 970 where gpu would clock down to 2d application clocks and get stuck there and wont revert till i rebooted.

Hmm interesting, I'll check that.

Ok I am going to uninstall AV and install it back in again, as you are both right, it happened to me few times that AV was affecting a lot.

You are running two SSDs... which connectors, on the MB, are they plugged into (red or black)?
If you have them in the black... you might wanna move them to red; and, be sure they are set to ahci in the bios.

I will check that today after I get back from work, as to be honest I don't remember, will also check AHCI

I've checked that all clocks running normal - but that 2D enforcement is intriguing, could you please be more specific, I'd like to get my head around it...

checked that one too. Uninstalled AV disabled it none of it helps

If you have them in the black... you might wanna move them to red; and, be sure they are set to ahci in the bios.

all connectors plugged to RED MB sockets AHCI is on in bios/uefi.

I've never had issues with any games on 8/8.1, and I play a lot of old games.

now don't get me wrong, I never had either. When I installed clean Win8.1 for the first time it was actually great, everything worked, old and new games, only after I formated and did a clean install all went shite, I have to reboot PC after I turn it on for everything to work normal - it's driving me nuts!

Couple of other things I noticed. While PC was off but still conected to the power socket with PSU ON I accidentally I moved mouse and kit keyboard keys and they all suddenly lit! Like the PC was still on. When on first "run" PC stage 1 (before 1st reboot) I don't get to see couple of icons on taskbar (right bottom corner near the clock) normally - in PC stage 2 (After reboot) I'd see all the programs and notifications I choose to be there but.

Expand upon this statement, please.

+1... never had trouble, either.

Edit:

That sounds like you have the wake with, keyboard or mouse, set in the bios.

Hmmmm, well, you can try going to "Device Manager" and disabling the wake computer settings there, if you have not already.

devicopt.png

However, you may want to disable Hibernate and Sleep... as, the keyboard and mouse may not wake it after you disable the settings, you may have to use the power button or some other way...
