Lenovo is giving final touches to its refreshed Y50 15.6-inch performance notebook, which it plans to launch this March. The refreshed Y50 will come in three variants, two of which will feature 4K Ultra HD IPS displays, and the third a 1080p full-HD IPS display. All three variants will feature NVIDIA's new GeForce GTX 960M graphics with 4 GB GDDR5 video memory. At the heart of the three will be Intel's Core i7-4720HQ processor (quad-core, 2.60 to 3.60 GHz, 6 MB L3 cache), backed by 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM. The top-spec variant will ship with a 512 GB SSD, while the others will offer a 1 TB + 8 GB hybrid drive. Prices will start at €1120, and go up to €1400. The target market will be EMEAI, which has an appetite for 15.6-inch notebooks.

That GTX960M will only be good enough for casual gaming with that 4K display...

Damn, I just bought a Lenovo (1080p version) with a 860M GTX 4GB (Maxwell). I wonder how a 960M will perform compared to 860M.

true but you could always scale down the resolution and i bet it would still look really good on a high quality ips display of that size.

I thought the rumor was that the 960m was just an overclocked 860m.

Either way its 128bit. I thought my 660M would hold up a little better before it showed it's age but I noticed it just got outclassed quickly. Still usable but not as great as reviews were stating. Everyone said, "buy the 660M cause its Kepler and had better tesselators." Memory bandwith/etc/blah blah blah. While true, performance was just not there to push things. If a GPU doesn't have the power to back it, all the new tech in the world means squat.

Course the price jump at the time to get a laptop with a 670M or better was just nuts and the price for performance wasn't there either. Toshiba just had done a rebadge of their line and raised prices about $300 with decent models $500+ higher than before. Lenovo was similar specs but ran a 660M instead of 670M. Even other makes at the time were high with 670Ms. You pay through teeth if you want 192bit or higher GPUs.

They should start making 17 inch laptops with 4K IPS.

What the hell is so wrong with them? :(

Lower demand for 17.3 laptops in general plus lower demand for 4K IPS panels in general means no panel manufacturers are making 4K ips 17.3 panels.

ahhm, no. The image is blurred and washed out compared to a native 1080p display. Saw this live on a Toshiba laptop ;)

I should have said in other way.

People are stupid and their excuses even more so. :D
