My new R9 290 GPU

Last week my GPU died and i RMA'd my Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x card and i got instead a Club3D R9 290 RoyalAce (my choice)...
I tested it today with some heavy duty games like AC Unity, Dying Light, Tomb Raider, Asseto Corsa and some benchmarks like valley, heaven, 3dmark and the card stayed very cool... i never got past 62C at 56% fan speed, WOW that's just AWESOME !!!
I didn't tested with furmark yet but maybe later or tomorrow i will test it 30 minutes to see what the card can do

I really enjoy this card, it's way far better than the tri-x

The default clock are 1040/5400(1350)... and maybe i will give a little bit of OC like 1100/6000 but for now i am happy with the default speeds

it doesn't matter how many fans on rad, matter HOW FAT ARE PIPPES in RAD, ITS matter and give you quiet good results.

I still love the Thermal Right HR-03-GT cooler for the HD 4870, slapped a 120mm fan on it and still running cool on my dads rig.

Unfortunately you now have a card with Elpida memory chips, which don't overclock as well as Hynix, they should be fine with small overclocks.

The real killer to find out would be voltage locked, But he's happy so WTF. And probably be able to overclock the GPU anyways so.

Not as if the card need overclocking in the 1st place.

That said he probably should not try what he plans with the ram even more so being the type of ram for the sake of a 2-3 fps is not worth it.

As it's a temp you would never reach with gaming, you could be pushing a extra 100w+ for no reason what so ever.

My gaming takes around 170-300w even with vsync off but running OCCT or Furmark will run the system 450w.

I use a Zalman fan controller that tells me the power usage as well so i see it all the time what usage the system hits.

LOL! My reference 290x throttled at 95c within 45 seconds of running FM. It's definitely one harsh-ass test.

Well this is were 3DMark ( demo ) comes in handy even more so if you get it though steam as it will download all DX files you need along with others and will push the hardware enough to get a little hotter than normal.

It depends. But often ES means they are cherry picked GPU's that can usually be clocked insanely high and they tend to have lower leakage levels. It can also mean pre-release hardware. But since this is retail, I don't think that's the case.

It's kind of bad..your VRAM freq keeps dipping down.
