AMD issued a statement on its upcoming Project Quantum SFF gaming desktop featuring Intel CPUs. The company clarified that it will offer both Intel and AMD processors, in the interest of consumer choice. AMD pointed out that the star-attraction in Project Quantum is the fact that it features two "Fiji" graphics processors in CrossFire configuration, to serve up graphics power unheard of, for this form-factor. Buyers will have a choice over the CPU, so if they feel that a CPU of a particular brand serves their needs better, they can make that choice.

Project Quantum will be an SFF gaming PC designed for super high resolution gaming. The company collaborated with liquid cooling majors to come up with a custom solution that cools the CPU and the two "Fiji" GPUs, over a common coolant channel, and a single large radiator. The system is split between two thermally-isolated chambers, with just coolant tubing and wiring running between the two. The bottom chamber features the mini-ITX form-factor motherboard, the dual-GPU video card, the SSD, and the power distribution PCB (PSU is external), while the top chamber is dominated by the radiator, and other liquid cooling components, such as the reservoir, pump, and a single large fan.

I dont need trust if i want a machine like that. I need speed and good reliability in terms of efficiency.
That means i will have to use intel until further notice. Not gonna delude myself that i will get a better product if i chose the red camp for now.

I'd definitely be interested in a version that came with the Jaguar 8-core processors featured in the consoles, as a front-end to the 2 Fijis. At the resolutions this is meant to push (4k and VR), a low-powered CPU like the Bobcat would have little effect on game performance, and sub-20 watt desktop-use power efficiency and a lower price would really make me consider one of these over my next build-your-own.

why? and why it (old article) bothers you?

News is a reporting of the facts, with a minimized bias. Fox, NBC, and ABC are no longer capable of reporting the news. TPU is capable of reporting the news. The previous article stated opinion as news, and even this title is only news worthy because the opinion expressed can be reconciled with demonstrable facts.

I have no issues with editorials, but when an editorial piece is labelled as news somebody had to fix it.

It should have an FX 8350/9370 as the only choice.
The people at AMD's marketing department are idiots; to have Intel on an AMD branded machine is a shot in the foot. Better to suffer a performance decrease under some circumstances (which would be manageable considering the double GPU).

I see easy way AMD will do this, Offer their cpu pretty cheap, but if you want intel power it will be a pretty large markup.

Agree. The reality is, at 4k (why else would you need 2 Fijis) there would be virtually no FPS difference between an 8350 and a 4790k (or 5960x).

This, pretty much. AMD could certainly use the profit made off of suckers

i thought reviewers were supposed to stay neutral on tech matters. Does or doesn't Trust is a speculation not a fact since AMD didn't say anything. It makes sense AMD did not let some websites from reviewing their Fury lineup since some websites just criticize AMD no matter what they do e.g ETeKnix and Kitguru are such websites with biased reviewers. If they had used their own FX cpus the graphics performance and other specs and benchmarks would vary so its reasonable to use Intel.

I don't really want to use an amd chip for my gaming rig till zen comes out... It is a bottleneck for fury.

Not true. The CPU is not a bottleneck at 4K. An AMD 4-core Jaguar based chip powering 2 Fijis might be 5% slower than a 8-core 5960x at 4k, with everything else being equal. And the AMD chip would cost about $900 less.

Would it be More Acceptable to you (and others) if it was marketed as ATi with Intel Inside

speculative i know but AMD is considering spinning off various parts of itself into separate companys and maybe resurrecting the ATi Brand

Even though choice is better for consumers it indeed seems like a very odd marketing decision indeed.

As if power brick for quantum isn't big enough it would need to be least a good what 200 watts bigger to run 9000 series FX series plus wonder if would need 2nd AIO loops for cpu alone since fx cpu's can't really go much over 60c safely.

Not true. The CPU is not a bottleneck at 4K. An AMD 4-core Jaguar based chip powering 2 Fijis might be 5% slower than a 8-core 5960x at 4k, with everything else being equal. And the AMD chip would cost about $900 less.
This is huge but common mistake.
Higher resolutions are always more CPU demanding than lower resolutions but he difference is not that steep as with GPU. If a CPU can't get to 60 FPS at 1080p there is no chance it will manage at 4K.
