My card (R9 280x) artifacts like that occasionally in several games. I also play WoT and sometimes there are artifacts and glitches like that. Nothing i did solved the problem (overclock, underclock, under and over volt , drivers updates)

Card was tested on different PCs with different PSUs. Unfortunately the card is no more under warranty.

posting to subscribe to the thread, as an owner of one of those exact cards i can say they definitely have problems. will edit post after i ready everything.

edit: yours is the same issue i had - its the VRM's on the card overheating. in my case i warrantied my card, the new one had the same issue so i warrantied again.

Lowering the power limit is helping keep the temps down on the VRM's, fixing the issue. I'm not sure why the hot VRM's cause graphical glitching, but it seems common with non-reference 280x cards.

I've seen the same artifacts on a 7950 VaporX with high vram load, usually over about 2.5gb. I,m insure if this is related but remember reading tahiti has a max dedicated limit of around 2.2 the rest is reserved for buffers or something. In W10 i don't think this will apply because video memory will be virtualized. have to look at the GCN white papers to find exact numbers. I can't acess a pc atm only have my phone. Prob obvious by all the spelling errors lol
It happens most often in World of tanks and Unigine haven where memory load is never above 1.5GB. Interesting is that is doesn't happen in Elite Dangerous were memory load is around 2.5GB...

Lowering power limit helps with overclockig memory and keeping it stable on 1650MHz but it doesn't help with artifacting for me. Yestrday when i try graphics on other computer with my PSU (cant find anyone here above 500W) computer crash artifact all allover screen or freeze. Even lowering GPU and memory to lowest possible level didn't help. WHat helpt, RAM from my computer. And aritfacticig were there but no crash. I believe it is not possible that PSU strain under lowest possible GPU and memory and powerlimit is cause for this. I just hope that replacement will be better. With my luck it might be even worse...

i dont think that your PSU is the problem. These cards, especially the gigabyte windforce models have an absolutely terrible reputation. Why do you think theres three revisions of the damn things? Some have overheating VRM's, some have bad memory, and some just hate working altogether.

Just did a quick and dirty test with GTAV in W10 if anyone is interested....

MSAA Off (bit dark sorry but there are no artifacts)

2x MSAA

VRAM load was the same for both,....ignore the voltages I was tabbed out to desktop.

No idea why this happens, just a bit of FYI.....

Now that is even worse than mine... What is your exact model of card?
Try memtestCL with 2000MB of ram. I posted where to find it before...

Ah, on 2nd thoughts I'm not sure the dedicated amount displayed in GPU-z is right.
GTAV commits around 8GB in W10 but only about 1GB of that is in vram according to some other tools I have. Take with salt....:)

I see Wiz just released a new build, brb.....

No still the same., I'll check with him.

Btw afaik MemtestCL isn't compatible with GCN cards, the test results are incorrect. Unless it's been updated in the last 2yrs.....

Yes that link was updated version... I had 0 errors. In old version I had like 20k errors in 5 min.

r9 or 7970 is not Vram artefact...but in 7950 Vram artefact....
R9 280x have a bad GPU clock , trying to underclock GPU from 50 (exp, 1050 to 1000) until it's stable , test with furmark 15minutes if pass it's normal to use again

i already repair 9 card with the same problem , and it's solved with reball and standart clock,
All tests like furmark or OCCT dont show anythig.
Right now I'm playing Elite Dangerous on 1000/1400 -20% and having artifacts. Didn't had them before in this game. Might be something going wrong with card...
And underclockig is not solution for new card! If it cant run on factory settings than it is DEFECTIVE!!!!

what is the voltage you are getting at at load
the 7970/280 has a shit ton of vdroop combined with a lackluster psu it could be the source of your issue
download msi-afterburner and set the voltage to 1.25 and re-test

OP I had the same artifact in Witcher 3 yesterday, it disappeared when I turned off Surface Format Optimization in CCC.

Give it a little more time... Who knows maybe that solves the problem but that artifact and mine look like some part of memory is not working as it should... Try other games. Tomorrow i get new card so will see...
