CHDSK fails?

I haven't had to use chkdsk since windows 7. But just now windows 8 said it needed to do it on one of my drives so I thought it meant one of my Hard Disks.

I restart and it runs chkdsk on my C drive which is my SSD. It gets to 30% restart and then gets to 30% restarts and then sends me to start up repair.

I just continue to windows as usual.

Everything seems fine but I'm confused as to why this would happen. Bad SDD? Can't chkdsk ssd?

Bad SSD, chkdsk doesn't care what media the data is stored on, it works correctly even if windows is installed on a USB stick.
Backup important stuff then run a benchmark with AS-SSD and see if it locks up or reboots under stress, If not try updating firmware and doing a secure erase.
I'm not familiar with any tools specifically for checking SSD's for errors.

This is less likely, but I have seen bad overclocks corrupt filesystems to the point that CHKDSK actually can't fix the disk. Usually however, there are other obvious signs of this. Blue screens, etc.

That seq write speed looks really bad if a firmware update/secure erase doesn't fix it I would see about getting it replaced if its under warranty.

For comparison your EVO should be much faster than my Vertex 3 in seq write.
Additionally you should be using the AMD AHCI drivers and have SATA mode set to AHCI in BIOS.

there is a thread at ocn about those Samsung 840 evo drives still being prone to a degrading write speed issue or something like that. I'd link it if I wasn't on my phone. But both your reads and writes are very wrong.

This should solve the slow performance and speed deterioration.

This, it's the month old data chestnut. Although it's not been proven to work 100% on all drives, as some drives have experienced the same slowdown even after applying the firmware fix. Bit of a disappointment, one of the reasons I don't recommend 840 EVO's anymore despite owning one as my primary drive.

yes, but how the hell are your numbers so high? Unless you are running 2 in RAID, which is doesn't look like it.

I do have rapid mode enabled.

Yeah the RAM caching from rapid mode makes benchmarks claim speeds in to thousands, but real life performance isn't affected much at all. A review showed that rapid mode was essentially pointless for everything but benchmarking.

You can try the AMD drivers and the MSAHCI drivers and see which one gets better performance but turn off rapid mode since its skewing the benchmarks.
To do this first install the AMD drivers through the download then you can switch between them by:
>device manager > IDE ATA/ATPI controllers > right click the device > update drivers > browse my pc > let me pick from a list > pick driver to use > reboot.
ONLY DO THIS THE WAY I DESCRIBED
UNINSTALLING A DRIVER INSTEAD OF UPDATING IT WILL LEAD TO WINDOWS NOT BOOTING DUE TO MISSING SATA DRIVERS I learned the hard way

reason i ask is i have used usb sticks where if i left them plugged in during restart, windows nags about needing to check them (nothing was wrong with them, it nagged every time, nothing gets repaired, no errors)

Have you checked CrystalDiskInfo or some sort of SSD life program? Step one should definitely be to check SMART values.

I have the samsung magician and it reports that my SSD is healthy.

Also here I have disabled RAPID mode.

I think I might just keep this. I'll try AMD's later.

Ok so apparently I'm still one of the few who is effected by the slow down and Samsung said they were working on a fix has anyone heard anything, this is really getting annoying.

Didn't that firmware upgrade come out a while ago to fix the slow down issue?

They've had two so far. This second one came out a few months ago.

The first fix wasn't a permanent solution, it just moved data from slow cells over to not slow cells but then over time the issues comes back.

So just recently I finally used enough data on my SSD that the issue came back, so when I did a google search I found out that they released a second fix.

And guess what this fix does? It applies the first fix periodically XD. Draw back is it will reduce the life span of the SSD.
I'd say Samsung just barely avoided a recall. And only time will tell if this second fix holds up.
