i'm running the RTM build now, and i can confirm we still have no control over windows updates. You can schedule when they install but *not* when they download, which is a total pain in the ass for someone without high speed broadband.
Same continent Mussels, mine seem to download during the day, usually when I'm in the middle of something.

With the option to revert to a previous OS expiring after 30 days, I would assume the validation key would then be tied to the new OS and no longer function with the old OS.
At least that way you can do a clean reinstall after formatting a drive, and use that key again.

be nice to know if that is the case or not, that we can do clean installs.

watermark is gone in this build, also windows activation is activated for Win 10 PRO (not preview). So it looks like insiders can get in on the action right now as I already have the option to stop receiving builds :D

Make sure there no expiry on that activation. CMD slmgr /xpr

That's fine for me. I dont have issue with that. Less I have to worry about. Then again, I get all updates and install them now and have for years. I understand some updates break stuff for certain people though.

as an example, the windows update drivers for my USB wifi N 300 adaptor locked its speed to 72Mb
third party drivers let me run 300Mb

i can no longer ignore/hide that driver update.

First of all you aren't in control of your OS which is the same thing as having a malware on your OS and there are a lot of other things mostly driver issues.

Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1 both offer to install this driver for me:

Now if install that AMD CCC does not recognize the driver and it also doesn't recognize the graphic card and that means that I cannot use CCC.

Second issue is with this:

If install this driver I cannot after installation disable this sensor and that means that every time the lid is closed and I move laptop around I have to suffer PC going into I think sleep state. I do not want that.

Come on people, you do not have control of your OWN OS! Most sane people would be asking themselves what that hell?!
This is not right!

Like I said originally, I understand it can break things for many users. I for one have never been a victim of it so I personally, dont mind one way or the other.

Microsoft. Windows 10 was originally supposed to be released in autumn, but they did it now because of some children going back from summer holidays bullshit nonsense (like every child buys an OS as they go back to school ).
Since when? They've said sometime between summer and fall. They never once said; "We're releasing Windows 10 fall of 2015; write that down."

They gave a vague window of sometime between summer and fall, and this falls right in the middle of that.

there has never (ifaik) been an nvidia large cursor, it was AMD. you are not a gamer, and use IGP only? :p

well there is/was an issue caused by a windows update nvidia driver http://forums.windowscentral.com/wi...election-cursor-very-large-build-10240-a.html

https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/3df2go/strange_cursor_distortionhelp_windows_10/

this only occured after updating to build 10240 and receiving the nvidia update thru windows updates. Yesterday a new update came, i installed it and the I beam cursor is normal size again.

i was just teasing him about the same thing on facebook, everyone rags on about AMD having a large cursor issue, but no one seems to care when nvidia have the same problem.

Sorry Musser but how long has each bug last or still lasts on "each side"....? It is recurring on the RED yard from what I read. And as hot news i can say these weeks I have installed W10, including that RTM build, on 6 computers (all green, lol) and no big cursor.

Edit: im colorblind, lol

i've never had the AMD big cursor issue on my systems either, its just that when its an AMD issue people blow it out of proportion, when its an nvidia issue its swept under the rug.

No, man, with 5870 and 6950 with Eyefinity, it was a huge problem that existed for a long time. I RMA'd one 5870 NINE TIMES in dealing with AMD's Crossfire/Eyefinity driver problems.

When they finally replaced my 2x 5870 with 2x 6950, the problem went away, only to return a few months later with a driver update (hotfix fixed it).

It only happened when the cursor moved from display to display, and when you moved cursor across displays it'd grow big on the transition, then then stay that way until reboot.

Going through that really impressed upon me how valuable XFX's support service was. Those guys really tried everything to help me out.

i got lucky and personally never experienced it with 5870's and 6870's. I recall that being a multi monitor issue, and i've been single monitor most of the time.

Hey, something else. i have Cortana working on my laptop (build in microphone, upgrade installation) but not on my desktop (clean instal, usb microphone). Both some version.

Apart from that, the mix-up of old and new icons and windows' styles is systemwide!!! (But hey, I am not into color coordination for hardware parts, so I cannot speak

Is it just a coincidence that the build number is exactly 10240 -> 10*2^10?
That clearly is a teaser to Windows 7 users: 1 + 0 + 2 + 4 + 0 = 7

LOL!

Does anyone know if a insider license is transferable from a VM to a new PC without a previous OS? Is the key linked to the Microsoft account or the "hardware", basically stopping me from running the OS on real hardware?

Anyway, i don't think Win 10 is ready for launch yet. The mix in new and old settings windows is somewhat reminiscent of not finished open source projects. Also while reading this topic Win 10 gave me the infamous "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" message... in the VM.

I'm stuck on a brevious build (10160) and can't update to 10240. WUpdate seems to think everything is okay, i'm a little annoyed as my other 2 computers have updated fine. I'm wondering what will happen when it's finally released, though I guess it doesn;t matter too much as I was planning on updating from a windows 8 licence (assuming everything worked well on release)
