Is it possible to play multiplayer games with my friends who run xboxes and ps consoles on my PC?

I think there has been done in the past, with some games, but in general it's a pretty iffy idea unless all players use the same controllers.

AFAIK no its not possible, atleast not while playing popular titles, i.e. BF series, COD, GTA's etc.. there might be some cracked servers for other "less than top end games", or games played LAN, but even then i'd be doubtful.

Generally no. The only two games I know of to do that were the original Halo and Shadowrun. They abruptly stopped sharing servers after that because Windows users were bitch slapping console users. Everyone has the same handicaps when the platforms are isolated.

i remember that when it was actually a thing (pretty sure it was shadowrun) - microsoft basically said in their press release that the non gamers in the office (i think office ladies were mentioned, not sure) kicked the 'serious' console gamers asses on a PC.
even with controllers, the better resolutions/refresh rates/higher FPS on PC helped a lot.

ask a console gamer to play battlefield or CoD on PC with their Xbox controller, watch them play terribly and lose a lot.

Yeah, it's a good thing Microsoft is reexamining it because there's really no reason why co-op games can't share multiplayer instances. I expect Minecraft to do the same. In fact, it might already do so. See Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta. "Added cross-platform multiplayer over LAN with Pocket Edition" and "Added Xbox Live multiplayer." If it doesn't support it yet, it's pretty safe to assume it will.

One game I know that is cross-platform is War Thunder.

I remember PS4 players joining battles... you could always tell as the pad has some very light auto-aim enabled.

Also, racing in GTA V for the PC is quicker (hands down) on a pad than it is with the keyboard and mouse. You scrub off RPM like a bitch when you use the keyboard... every press is 50-100rpm less on the dial lol

Only game where fighting for the right spot on keyboard was worse than in any other game was Atomic Bomberman. Ever tried playing it with 4 people on single keyboard with two more on gamepads? Yeah, that's how Atomic Bomberman multiplayer on single PC looked like
