I would like to point you to one specific line in my sig wherein the veritable @rtwjunkie states.....

" planning for the future is futile"

 :roll:It could be taken out of context, depending on who is reading it.

it want be saparate. he already have the rig, current one that will become server after he buy new rig. with moving vms to the server he can leave em running 24/7 w/o messing with gaming. his 930 should be enough for vms and daily plex server tasks.
this way he can save money from cpu&ram for gaming rig and put em for 980ti and ssd+ram+gold psu upgrade for server

edit: this could be gaming rig http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bdLLQ7 and this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FvrsGX for server upgrade about 2k total.

This is actually a pretty solid idea, i'm liking this.

I was the first to say it was futile as well, but it's fun so why not? :p

Plus look, now he might just upgrade his current rig for VM duties and have his future build be focused on gaming only, so it does help at times. Are your RAM slots populated completely? If not, during Black Friday I'd suggest buying another 12GB IF your VM needs it, perhaps a decent SSD for storage of your VMs and games. I want to emphasize once more how much better VMs run on SSD vs HDD

If i could get my tongue any further in my cheek it would come out of my ear :)

....check my specs....not much up-to-date there

anticipation is 90% of the fun (as my wife keeps reminding me.)

gaming rig should be this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dsjkMp
I've missed that tridentZ 3000mhz has no price so i`ve swapped it with 2800 version. price for gaming rig is up with 130 but total still doesnt jump over 2k cause before i calculated it wrong

I'd replace that SSD for an Extreme Pro 480GB or an 850 EVO 500GB M.2, though by the time he'll actually buy it, there will be better m.2 alternatives probably like a 950 evo or something. Would go with the EVGA G2 650W for the PSU, performance of it is better overall and EVGA > XFX in my personal experience

What's wrong with the SSD @ne6togadno suggested? The bx100 is an insanely positively reviewed (by users and reviewers alike) SSD. Any increase in speed up to the Samsung will only be noticed in benschmarks.

well xfx=seasonic 650w g2 from evga is superflower
both are very close in tests so it all will depend on the price at the time of purchase

bx100 is 100k iop read and 70k write. samsungs (even m.2 drives) are 90k read, ~85-90k write. you install the game once but you load it a lot of times till you see its end.

I have heard something similar but my version is "future proofing depends on how deep your pockets are, the deeper it is the more futureproof it is."

My doctor have bummed my Mirtazapine dose to double. Though he told me to take regularly I don't do it that often as I got way to sleepy aside from taking it and being tired all day. Funnily enough my doctor use it for my depression and my trouble sleeping at night from it. So it is the opposite for me ahha. The good thing about Mirtazapine it taste like candy. Getting of topic here lol.

Any reason why either is better than the corsair PSU i picked? or just price/performance ratio?

price/performance and if you go with 980ti you dont need that much power (unless you plan to go sli in next 6 months).
edit:
dont get me wrong. axi series from corsair are among the best psus on the market (i have 860i myself) but for needs you describe (and if you buy new rig and upgrade old one in the same time) it is better to go for cost efficiency rather then best possible hardware no matter price.

Seasonic does have more coil whine issues than SF apparently, and is trailing behind SF in voltage control and ripple surpression, plus the EVGA seems to have better customer service, I'd just go for EVGA G2 or P2 series right now, RMi if you want Corsair.

I think I saw that 4K random reads are slower for BX vs the ones I suggested, that does make a difference in my experience. Sandisk Extreme Pro has an insane warranty as well, which is always great. The most extreme difference I've found can be seen here http://www.anandtech.com/show/9144/crucial-bx100-120gb-250gb-500gb-1tb-ssd-review/7

I usually emphasize QD1-4 on 4K when judging speeds of SSDs. On a side note, I also like good consistency in the writing (see http://www.anandtech.com/show/9144/crucial-bx100-120gb-250gb-500gb-1tb-ssd-review/3) but that's just personal preference. I tend to overprovision by 15-25% to help with this

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Let's talk in the spring...

But seriously... 1KW PSU? Whaaaaaa?

512gb ssd is enough for all of your games.
m2 is pointless. you will have same performance as sata3 ssd at double price.
use pcpartpicker.com for better prices.
here is what you can have for ~2.3k (~2.25k if you drive to microcenter for cpu) http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9VLx3C

edit: you can go even for less if we put real psu not that 1kw nonsence
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/j42LQ7
or if you drop that 980 and get 390x instead http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KVgx3C
Not NVMe M.2 drives....WAY faster, which is their point. ;)

for me dl isn't problem. my speed is 4.5-5mb/s (caped at server side)
I pull my full 10MB/s (75Mb/s down) from Steam and Origin... Not sure what is capping you if you are sourcing it there.

you are too late to the train. this one is quite away in the past.

not everyone in the world lives in US. i have 100/100 mbit optic but if i am downloading from steam/uplay (havnet checked origin) i am caped at 5MB/s. eso launcher sometimes hits more but most of the time is 5-6MB/s torrents are faster but quite few games are distributed as torrents.

I picked a drive that is technically PCIe x4, not SATA through M.2. So it should be way faster through that interface.
