if i overclock my graphic card does it increase the frame rate in games? how much overclocking is efficient for increasing the frame rate? let me complete my threat. I'm gonna use 1920x1080 monitor (mx239h) with 960 strix 2G or 970 strix 4G?

i want a frame rate comparison between these cards when they are overclocked.

Are you trying to decide on whether to get the 960 or 970? Everyone says the 960 is good for 1080p gaming, but the 970 will give you more frames of course.

If you can afford a 970, then yes for gods sake get one. I don't even consider the 960 a real gaming card. And yes, if you oc it, you will get higher frame rates. There is a limit however,
between speed and stability. You will learn.....

Yes overclocking will give you more fps. Rarely will it be large gains though. Only overclock if you really need to. If you get a 970, I highly doubt you will need to overclock. The 970 will always beat the 960.

For a beginner who wants fast performance at stock, a 970 is the best choice. Can get upto 20% gain if you get the right card. It's not small. It just won't double it or anything....
If you oc.....

IMO, Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming version has been a good card to OC for me.

Fan noise isn't a huge deal to me, so I am willing sacrifice noise for cooling.

Usually under load with the OC in my specs.... Unigine Heaven gets up to about 65 celcius... which is pretty dang good imo.

Usually when gaming, unless its some crazy load it wont even exceed 60 celcius.

A little late, but just to contribute to the knowledge base...
Overclocking (depending on if you card is OC'd from the factory or not) usually can only give about 10%-15% more FPS.

Here are my results, although they require a bit of explaining xD

FPS during different matches of Evolve, running with a DSR of 2880x1620 (Or something like that)

First tests were with Smart TXAA (Or whatever Evolve's default is...)
Test #1 Stock overclock on my EVGA GTX 980 SC
Below that...
Test #4 The max overclock I had stability with, I think I was at 8 GHz on the VRAM and about 1550 MHz on the core
Second two tests were with the regular TXAA

The findings are that the biggest difference between OC and non-OC is with minimum frames, bringing up the lowest drop by about 5 FPS, and reducing the "recovery" time when the drops do occur.

But IMO a 970 is a much smarter investment than a 960.(Kinda irrelevant now, as you have made your choice...but still :p )

Listen. The GTX 960 is a good gaming card for 1920x1080 and lower. Get the 4GB version. It's hard to believe looking at the 960's specs but it's 10-15% faster than 1 of my GTX 760 because of much better pixel output than the 760.
