dGPU in question is/was a Powercolor LCS 7970 that i converted to the reference air shroud from AMD.

I have trouble-shot myself to death.
new bios updates for board, drivers are fine, Card DOES work in other PC's with newer parts, Card DOES power on , and fans spin in problem PC just NO display. PSU is solid. to save us from "ive tried that" posts..the only things i haven't done yet are update to "beta bios"(i want to wait until asrock get in touch with me before this), and move GPU to second slot(wont fit so ill need to see if i can move stuff around). the rest as be tried.

From what I have found online, Asrock Z68's have been lacking in support, regarding this issue. I am not the only person by a long shot to encounter this issue. All seem to be on Z68 boards for the most part, and seem to revolve around this series of GPU, or close to it.

I am all but certain that this is a Motherboard software issue, and not hardware. I am HOPING that someone has encountered and resolved this problem, and happens by this thread because it seems like Every bolognahead that posts online NEVER follows up with the solution, so i basically keep finding unresolved threads.

If you HAVE experience with this issue, please reply, if not ill just await Asrocks reply, and hopefully they can guide me trough the problem. Thanks a Lot for your Help.

Shit,
good luck with it mate, to rule out mobo almost definitively, cheaply and yes they do work .....a few $ and they are handy to have in the toolkit anyway.

other than that i know you will have done all of the things i could possibly suggest

i love my 7970

yes it runs ANY card aside from the 7970 that i have, it worked perfectly fine with a 7870Ghz until the GPU shit the bed,a 6950 worked perfectly, the iGPU works fine.

i love my 7970
what is that thing you posted a Error code pci plug in doo-hickey? hmmm what is they called? ill see if i can find one. thanks

on another note....its killing me that a 370 brand new is $109 usd after promo& rebates, and is very close in perf to the 7970 im trying to get working.

That's effing weird then. :twitch: Sounds like that SATA fault on my PC that I've been posting about. I'm at work now, but I'll try to give this some more thought when I get back in.

Does it display if you run a driver sweeper and don't install AMD's drivers? Like run the video card with basic windows display drivers.

If the video card is displaying the BIOS so that you can update it, I would think that your OS is the problem and should be re-installed. Other thing I would look at is to see if the iGPU is enabled in the BIOS on and is overriding the AMD card in some fashion when the PC boots.

Good point.

I also wonder, do you even see a BIOS display with that card?

no the bios is not even showing up. the settings in my bios are fine, its GOT to b the Bios software itself...Ive been on Asrocks support forum, and you could fill a football stadium with the threads that sound just like mine. @Norton pointed out that there was a "beta" bios for this board, but I am apprehensive about flashing it, because im awaiting Asrocks reply from a ticket i created...with My luck they'll be like " oh you installed that beta bios??. too bad now we cant help, you might as well throw your PC in the damn river now A-hole" :) but I had a 7870 working fine in this PC, i had a 6950 working fine in this PC( from what ive gathered from searching , it's specifically the 7970's/7950's chip that the Z68 asrocks dont like, and its hit or miss Some boards work, some dont), and I had the 7970 in question working fine in a newer PC...so thee aren't many possible causes left after that process of elimination, and the possibilities ive already ruled out over the last 24+ hours.

it looks like ill just have to await a response from Asrock now :(

Try changing PCI-E slot see if it works (yes you should try moving stuff around.. to try another slot.) and also try changing dvi port to like something else like display port or vga see if it works... sounds like no display but your PC still boots like normal.

@Norton suggested i switch to another pci lane last night but due to space limitations i was just now able to do it,and ffs it works!!!!!@#$$. Its basically sitting on top of my psu,,,but it is working now.recognized by windows, and gpuz as a 7xxx/r9 290 or something like that.i guess ill just need to run it this way ,hopefully there is no diminished performance from it being in a lower pci lane.thanks to all for helping

So just to "Pay it forward" so to speak. I noticed during searching online for this solution that ALL of the threads i came across ended with the OP posting something along the lines of "okay, Ill go and try that suggestion and ill be right back"..then the thread goes dead. which leaves a person searching for a solution VERY frustrated , and thinking that "this A-hole figured out the issue, and couldn't be bothered to take 10 more seconds to post it back here so others could benefit if they too encounter this issue". so to stop that "trend".

SOLUTION to 7970/7950 NO video when running a Z68 Asrock or other Motherboard. Try switching the Tahiti based GPU (or other) to PCI-E lane #1, or #2, or whatever You have besides #0 aka the top most one. This worked For Me, and hopefully if You've ended up here in the situation I was in , it will help You too. if it DOESN'T help You, I suggest You spend some time here on TPU, create an account if You dont have one, and ask around. Good Luck.and please remember...KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!! ;)

Did you take the card in and out of the computer and boot/reboot a thousand times until it turns on? That's what I got to do this week, trying to install a 560ti 448 core Asus triple-slot video card from hell into granny's hand-me-down, nicotine-dusted Asus Crosshair IV motherboard--until I finally gave up and put my old 5870 Matrix (because it's shorter) in there and put the 560 into my computer. It booted every time, ON IT'S SIDE!

Did you try laying your case on it's side? LOL!
