Hi. this problem started a few days ago that when I play any game it shuts down after 10-30mins and I've checked everything I can think off except my PSU and chipset.

I've checked tempetures and they are around 50-65 degrees while im playing, last reboot GPU was 63. CPU 55 and motherboard temps around 40-55. Checked whit HW monitor, Open hardware Monitor and Core temp.

Done a windows memory check that did'nt find any problems and reinstalled windows and cleaned every fan in the computer.

From what I can gather from different forums is its either a chipset problem or PSU problem and i'm thinking its a PSU problem since the one I have is quite old, atleast 7 years old.

The critical error message I get from the event viewer is:

Source: Kernel-Power
Event-id: 41
Category: (63)

EventData

BugcheckCode 0
BugcheckParameter1 0x0
BugcheckParameter2 0x0
BugcheckParameter3 0x0
BugcheckParameter4 0x0
SleepInProgress 0
PowerButtonTimestamp 0
BootAppStatus 0

and anything I can find on the bugcheckcode is a hardware problem but before I go out and buy something I might not need I thought I would ask if it could be anything else.

Thanks.

PSU is 7 Years old, Replace it, Also make sure youre not on a Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter, You might want to check the powerchord for damage also remove from a power strip/surge protector/UPS. I would also clean your fans/case, check the motherboard for capacitor aging (bulges). Reseat the GPU and all connectors and other cards

Sounds like a good plan and I agree that the psu needs to be replaced. Though you should be fine with a lower wattage unit. I would suggest something in the 750-850 watt range, if your system specs are up to date.

Does this happen if you stress the CPU or only when there's a load a the GPU? If this problem occurs when you stress (use something like Intel burn test) the CPU then I would say that your PSU is most likely failing.

I'd be looking at the PSU as well.

But I would inspect the 12v motherboard header as well as it might just be a loose crimp connection. Or worse a loose 12v pin on the motherboard.

It have only happened while there's load on the GPU but just ran a intel burn test on high stress level 10 times whitout any problems

About the PSU yeah I've been thinking about buying a Corsair CX750M as its fairly cheap and Corsair tends to be a good brand.

eidairaman1: I dunno what an Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter is and if im right about what the Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter is then im not on one. I could try and move the GPU to another slot though.

Iceni: I hope thats not the case because for me to find that out I would have to find someone to check that :)

Yes the 4 or 8pin connector for the CPU and PCIE 6 & 8pin cables. Double check the connection for the 24pin ATX connector while you're at it, just to be safe.

So the symptoms aren't there when you stress the CPU, that's good. Double check the PCIE power connections and reseat your GPU. Also, try moving the GPU to another PCIe 16X slot if you have one.

If none of the above helps, then visually inspect your GPU for any signs of wear or damage. Bulging capacitors, pcb damage, burnt traces or black marks/components.

An arc fault circuit interrupter will look like a GFCI receptacle or more commonly you would have an arc fault breaker. An arc fault breaker will have more than one wire going to it and a test button along with the normal on-off-tripped switch.

Does your PSU have multiple 12vdc rails or just one?

Good info above. Most probable cause is a weak component in the PSU, good ones have a built in safety that shuts the computer down instead of burning up your computer. I recently purchased some items to upgrade a computer for a friend that is having computer problems.

I purchased him an 80 Plus Gold rated 550 watt Seasonic G Series [modular], it was $80 dollars at Newegg and now cost $90, you might find it less expensive elsewhere. You can get the 650 watt version for $10 more. I believe in quality over wattage [except for more power required by extreme machines, still with high quality components]. Left click on my screen name for my system specs.

Note: A bad power supply can damage other hardware in the computer, so do not wait too long before you fix your computer.

[Edited for clarification.]

I dont know. Its one of the first Corsair modular 1000w PSU's that got on the market. cant remember when It was bought as I got it from a friends around 5 or 6 years ago and he had it for allmost 2 years. I do remember that I had to go out and buy an extra cable for it when I upgraded my GPU to the one I have now
