Buying a new display tomorrow, which dell ?

Hey guys !
For the past 3-4 years I have been using a 23" version of the DELL Ultrasharp (something with 23HM in the model name)

I was wondering if the new 2515H or the 2414H are significantly better straight out of the box or am I about to "waste" 400$ for no improvement ?

I have been thinking of getting a larger size for a while and I have some spare cash so I figured I'd ask first just to see it's not a redundant upgrade.

Why dont you find a nice 27 inch monitor for that money and get a real improvement. You'll have to do your homework to make sure your getting a nice screen cause those ultrasharps are suweeet! (I own one

But ya , find some more real estate if you've got 400 to spend. Just a thought.

Hello! First U2515H is not supporting FreeSync or Gsync ..as i see,but is a nice panel!

Pretty sure the system name covers that, it's good to see an X1800GTO still running out in the wild! :toast:

@Fif23 , what kind of improved experience are you looking for? Assuming just web browsing, watching videos, basic multimedia stuff? If so, I'd honestly go for a larger screen or a second screen (what I did) so you have more real estate for multiple programs, windows, browser sessions, etc.

I doubt their specs could haul enough power to produce any need for those. Like, seriously.

@OP, if it's just basic internet browsing then go for what you feel is best. I've always seen good reviews for that monitor series.

Get a korean 27 inch monitor and overclock it. Or get a 40 inch 4k monitor.

OP If that is truly specs forget a new monitor and forget 1440 so the 2414H would be about it

No, I hadn't, my bad. But when it comes to monitors, korean ones are the best deals around. That's all I really meant to say.

Thank you for all the great replies fellas ! Really appreciate you taking the time.

The screen will go on a AMD FX-8350 system with an HD7970 which includes a display port.

I really don't like 27", I also play CS:GO quite a lot in tournaments where I take my display with me and I really hate it on 27.

I am mainly drawn to the resolution of 1440 on 25", will it make the screen look more like an IPHONE display ? I can only get Dells here because I order through the university supplier...

Keep in mind With a HD7970 you will drop fame rates at 1440. So it will take a hit on performance. You could get a 27"1080

When I was running a GTX780 and went from 1080 to 1440 I went from 140fps to 70pfs

Really the only thing that is better is gaming. Stunning detail. Other than that its just more desktop real estate and icons are smaller at 1440

Even with photo and videos editing I don't notice much difference. Just slightly sharper image

Your current Dell (if this one) is already (and still) a nice LED backlit monitor. So, assuming it still works fine, I would NOT upgrade to a new monitor unless you just want something bigger. And if that is the case, going from 23 to 24 seems like a waste of time and money. 27"s are nice, but for some folks, may actually be too big depending on how the monitor sits on their desk. If your desk forces your monitor to be too close to your face where you have to keep moving your head instead of your eyes, that may not be a good fit for you.

Or in my case, I have a hutch over my desk so 24" monitors is the largest I can use and still keep my monitors back and under the hutch.

Coming from a 1680×1050 22 inch to my current 1440p Dell U2515H, I can say that personally live how sharp everything looks. Not just PDF, also browsing etc. But in your case I'd still go for 1080p; like others said, in gaming you're not gonna get nice fps, and downscaling to 1080p isn't gonna look nice either, so that wouldn't be worth it IMHO

Personally got the U2415 , a display that i think is a good middle of the road solution, bigger than the U2414 , 16:10 is the best if you don't watch videos the whole day, better calibrated, and no crazy small objects on the screen like on an 1440P 25" Display.
