Horizon's is what they're calling the "Second Season" of the game, which adds planetary landings/battles/exploration, multi-crewed ships and housing fighters in larger ships as launch items... last I checked it's a charge item, but I got in early and invested on the lifetime pass so it is free for me. Though I hope their initial pricing scheme is reduced so it's more viable for users to want to buy it.

Finally played some dedicated CQC last night. Had fun with it...can see the potential of it... Feels like their version of Arena Commander.

I do feel the ships are a touch too weak...but i not only really enjoyed it but also realized how much in suck still lol!

I thought I was going to be annoyed that its a different mode from the main game...but am actually happy with the execution of it. Now keep in mind...I'm not the type that has the time or need to play it straight thru until I burn out...so my opinion may differ.

The main game still feels damn good and +1 to hoping FDev tune the driving and gravity dynamics as well as they did the space flight.

CQC is a fun break away from the main game.

I am trying to hunt pirates outside of Bacon City for the community event stuff...and keep getting my ass handed to me in my Cobra MKIII

But I am doing better in CQC, though it is challenging to find matches at times which is annoying. I really hope they keep pushing the potential of CQC...it could convince people to buy the game just for that...and there's sooooo much promise to be had there...game types, ships, arenas both in space, and on planet, etc, etc. etc...

Man, been looking at this for some time now. I'm pretty sure after our current World Community Grid Challenge I'm going to be picking this up.

I wish they had some planetary adventures as I'm assuming this is all in ship adventures. But none the less, I have been looking for a space sim that has good graphics and exploration for a long long time.

Elite as it is right now before the Horizon's expansion/season/dlc is about the pilot experience...what do you as a pilot want to do? Who do you want to do it for? What ship do you want to do it in?

I use a HOTAS, but KB+Mouse is do-able, though many prefer controllers, some over HOTAS. I've also used a cheap Joystick and Logitech G13 with excellent success.

After Horizon's, we should be able to at least land on, explore, battle, mine/extract resources, and more on planets. Not sure how far they'll really flesh it out and we won't know for a couple more months. I'm personally a combat guy...but I've done a little mining a lot of trading and barely any smuggling (will be changing soon ).

I'd recommend you watch some streams or Let's Play on Youtube as well. This game is worth it, but depending on what you want this might provide plenty or it might provide not enough. I'm very content with the pilot experience as that's exactly what I wanted...this and Evochron Mercenary provide it in spades. This just is newer, better graphics, and a 1:1 universe and old Elite lore. This game also has a pretty small footprint for a modern game. It has grown with patches...my installation is showing 4.9GB. The long term plan for this game spans another 10 years so what we have now is just the tip of the iceberg.

Don't mind flying a asteroid aT9, but in closed or with friends.

I was making around 900-1.2mill a run before i quit, and was aiming to get a Python as well but got bored.

Surly they fixed the cockpit in the Python yes ?, you could hit it on entry or even other ships bump in to it and pretty much death .

Thinking about it i would probably get back in to it if it had people to play with .

I haven't traded since there was snow on the ground...I've been bounty hunting, combat missions, and CQC-ing. I decided that chasing the buy the next most expensive ship goal was pushing me to lose focus on what I wanted to do, which was enjoy the game. I enjoyed trading until it turned into a boring grind...I don't like spending hours flying from station to station looking for good deals and good profits. I never did get an opportunity to try out the Python yet.

Honestly I'm not sure what my next ship will be...but at this point with only 1.5 mil in the bank...and a decked out Cobra MKIII I'll keep fighting till that's closer to 10-20 mil...or till I decide to do something different. I was even thinking about doing some exploring at some point, try mining again.

I have tried to line up with people, but honestly I have no qualms going about the frontier by myself...but that said I'm hoping Horizon's brings more MP goodness to the mix.

That's a pretty good profit AsRock, I never came close to that kinda profit...if I did I might have kept trading. I still have my trusty ol' T6 parked at Cemiess iirc.

Exploring not sure if it changed or not a fully kitted out ASP with the biggest baddest fuel scoop ( about 30m all in ) was awesome, i all so enjoyed the smaller brother to the explorer. I remember some thing hard to find for the ASK which made it pretty sweet in battles too but at this time escapes me what it was.

@Kursah i was using a T9 , although at the start i wasn't started with a T7 bringing in about 500k a run and might of picked up again just depends on how many people are hitting those 2 places..

When I trade I'm doing it in my Python, it is of course also well armed and shielded(pretty much everything A Class) I lose jump range with the extra weight but I'm pretty sure I carry 224T of cargo. I haven't seen her in awhile I have been out on a bit of Explore in my Cobra. Next time I hop on I will be heading home to grab her and see if I can still catch a good smuggling mission in Sothis...The trade route around my home station has completely imploded with all the system exploitation from lame Power Play and what not...

What stands out to me is this
Federal Corvette seems kinda sucky right now. I can't fly it, but just specs vs specs it loses to the cutter and anaconda.
The Imperial cutter is amazing. 2 class 8s and a grand total of 728 cargo with shields, 792 without. For trading though you'll need almost 300m to outfit.
Anaconda can now jump over 70 LIGHTYEARS. That means those closed off "alien permit required" systems are now open. Thargoids anyone?

I should have been clearer. I meant the general area. While some require the alien permit, there are many systems in the same area that do not require a permit, but are still inaccessible. They're usually about 55ly away from other stars, making them jumpable now.

I'm betting something happens when you take a UA there.

OMG! I've done it!

Almost exactly 300 hours in and I've done it.
This is at the end of a 6 hour grind for it. I'm home sick and had nothing better to do. I'll outfit it and fly it a bit but I don't think I'll be on too much longer.

Awesome to play with the recommended flightstick. Did it over at a friend I met through a friend while hanging out with both friends but over at the other friends house.

Downloading Horizons now. I played a little bit of the beta, and it was pretty cool getting to land on a planet...then I accidentally attacked the outpost lol.

Who else has Horizons? What about trying 64-bit version of standard Elite Dangerous? I'm assuming it helps with performance in the game maybe??? Not sure...I haven't had bad performance...but maybe it'll smooth things out on my i5 laptop.

Not gonna lie, Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 hit and kind of stole the show...for me at least.

I want to try horizons but I can't buy it. Maybe I'll get it for Christmas.

As for SC 2.0 overshadowing horizons and 1.5, I don't really see it. It's still so far alpha I can't get it stable.

I don't think SC 2.0 will last for me because of stability...but I am totally enjoying the moments in between bugs. But for now it wins imo.

I hope CQC got some much needed attention with 1.5. I only tried Horizons beta...and it had a lotta bugs too. I'll report back once I give the official release a go.

Yeah, i wont be paying $45 either. Would only make me feel like i just been ripped off if i did, Maybe $20-$25 for those who got the game during early access i be interested but not putting another $60 in to a game that i feel that was not really cooperative..
