Hello,
I am looking to build a desktop, I want it to be future proof, I am looking for a close to top of the line build with the ability to upgrade. I cannot decide between 6th gen and 5th gen processors. I need a six core processor min. I am also buying the monitor and case as part of the budget. the monitor I decided to buy is the asus pg278q. I only want 1 graphics card for now but it needs to be top of the line for video editing and playing top games on that monitor. I also need a ssd drive that is 500gb, I don't know If it is worth it to go with the new 950pro from samsung or sticking with the 850. plz help you will probably know better which system is best for now. I also need a motherboard that is top of the line and will last for 5 years min.

Personally I'd go for a beefier PSU in case SLI happens, and by the sound of it it might.

BTW, isn't Broadwell-E due very soon, and the 10 cores its supposed to have?

Broadwell-E, which is what I plan on replacing my 3930k with, is still 4-6 months away (according to TPU's article on it). And note where I posted the link where I said "without going completely overboard". The 8 core 5960X is available now, and the budget is there to afford it, but I didn't include it. OP said they wanted 6 cores, so that's what I included in my build suggestion. And as always, I'm open to suggestions of changes to the build.

Ah, I thought it was jst a couple of months away. And I agree on the CPU choice, drop less cash on it now and if he really needs more cores he can get Broadwell-E when that comes out.

The OP did.
No need for the 5930k , put that money into 2x 980 in my opinion instead of a 980ti and dont get a 950pro, ssd's are fast einaf as they are, if he wants go raid0

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/H9vx8d

Edit: I know with that price pool you can go crazy , but i think there is no need to go THAT crazy and if you go , you should get a psu capable of SLI

I'll respond with a simple quote from the OP-

I need a six core processor min. I am also buying the monitor and case as part of the budget. the monitor I decided to buy is the asus pg278q. I only want 1 graphics card for now but it needs to be top of the line for video editing and playing top games on that monitor.

If the OP want to be SLI ready, then get the Corsair RM1000 psu for $110. I know 1000 watts is more than enough, but it's currently the same price as the RM850 and is the best priced quality PSU I personally would recommend for a SLI system.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8LYGpg

edit: I'm not trying to go overkill with the OP's huge budget. If I was, I'd recommend something like this (which still has $200 to pick a case with and will still be within the OP's budget)- http://pcpartpicker.com/p/cy3DP6

Talking about the mythical 'future proof' unicorn is getting tired. OP, you can't future proof, you can 4-5 yrs proof. The CPU and mobo side can last a very long time. Like @BarbaricSoul I'm rocking a (now 4 yr old) 3930k. But my gfx card has changed many times to keep up with AAA quality 1440p res gaming. With DX12 looking to take a footing next year or so, you're better of buying a 'capable' gfx card on a x99 mobo/CPU set up. As folk say, Broadwell E is x99 compatible with BIOS so that gives you 10 core pathway. I'd genuinely not but an Nvidia card right now, as awesome as they are in current titles, I think AMD GCN architecture is better placed for 2016 and generally cheaper. Don't get me wrong, my 980ti is just silly but a Fury is cheaper and will give very similar performance plus it looks like it will hold up very well n a DX12 environment.
Max out the mobo and CPU, upgrade your gfx in a year.

Okay , but that "overkill" build is plain stupid, the other one u did was actually fine and may be more future proof than getting 2x980 as i suggested, still i don't think he needs a m.2 ssd that expensive and without getting the m.2 ssd , no need to get the 5930k and get the 5820k instead and save money from that too , but yea , good recommendations and it all comes down to the OP in the end anw.

That's enough in my opinion. You can handle 4 GPUs when you decide.
Do not replace that GPU, it is the fastest-newest GTX 980 ti and it kicks the Titan X.
You can replace that LEPA PSU if you want, but it is nice and so enough.
Don't replace that Swiftech cooler, it's the best-silent liquid cooler.

I dont see why he would get a X99 build but only dual channel memory. 1600w PSU is so unnecessary. He already has a monitor/decided on one.

Agreed, hell an even better option would be to get a 128gb M.2 Samsung 950 drive just for the OS. 500-1Tb ssd for video work, games, etc, and then obvious a big platter drive for basic storage items.

Such as this: (Changed cooling too. To air. Just making the assumption the OP doesnt want liquid)

Just a thought, buying 4GB sticks is pointless.

Is there a tangible difference? I mean real world tangible?

is there any tangible difference between the 5930k and a 6700k for a video editing/gaming system? IMHO, no there isn't(well not compared to the price difference between a 6700k system compared to a 5930k system). But the OP wants a 6 core system, which means they want a quad-channel system, so it should have 4 sticks of RAM. But then again, my suggestion has 4*8 GB sticks so......

Guys why 5930k and not the 5820k ? its 200$ difference for no reason at all, the lanes are not needed at sli. At x8x8 sli is the same(no performance difference) as the x16x16 ..

^simply because even with the 5930k, the build suggestions are still under the low end of the stated budget. 16*16 will help with keeping the system performance up helping it maintain a +5 year life span. Who knows what GPU's require bandwidth wise 5 years from now. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it IMHO.

If he's gonna do video editing, raided SSD is essential also. Video editing takes up a shiton of I/O performance.
