I have recently received this new graphics card; however, after inserting it into a Dell XPS 8700 ( with an Intel core i7 @ 3.60 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 64-bit operating system, and Windows 8.1), the monitor would no longer turn on. I also tried installing the software before inserting the hardware, but for some reason, the installation failed. Any ideas as to why this may be?

Your PSU may struggle to run that card as apparently it's only a 460w unit and only has 384w on the +12v rail (32amps x12) (source)

Silly question have you plugged the 8 pin connector in?

We have a 6-pin connector, and yes, I plugged that in.

you are going to need to invest in a more powerful PSU
somewhere in the region of 500w to 600w bronze certified with the correct 6+2 or 8 pin power supply for the graphics card

The software WILL FAIL to install if the system fails to initilise the card (lack of power )

if PSU is weak, or old enough to die any day, then you should upgrade it. just get a Quality build PSU of 600w capacity. you're good to go. AMD GPUs are more power hungry.
