I'll try pulling the cmos battery tomorrow.

I ended up buying a new motherboard. A Gigabyte z97x gaming 7.

So far I have no issues with any ram in any slots. Booted right up!

I had the same exact problem with my Z77 OC Formula with the occasional prob with the CPU acting like it's dead or something. Also had the non-working RAM slot(s) problem thrown in for good measure too - In my case it was a pin in the socket that was slightly out of place (Bent) and I had to straighten it to fix the problem.
Even now it still does a code 55 at times if I should remove the CPU and set another in so I just leave the CPU in ( 3770K ). I believe I caused that myself :shadedshu: after overtightening my waterblock and caused the mentioned pin to become slightly bent in the first place.

Good luck with the RMA.
