That's a long ways away, unfortunate but they had better come out when they say otherwise its going to cause problems.

We need something soon in 2016 though...

ZEN (Performance Desktop) coming out in Q4 2016. Between October to December 2016.
This has been confirmed by AMD's CEO.
ZEN based APU's and Server Chips to follow in 2017+.

Absolutely Good News, and something this industry needs Real Bad. I'm confident ZEN will live up to all the hype. Jim Keller had a say in this design. That's enough for me.

Kinda expected. Things usually get launched towards the end of the year. Hopefully they get them out and have plenty of stock by the holidays.

*Also, CPU will hopefully be good.

Looks like another year for me and my 3820. 4 years? Pfft, it can last 5. ;)
I'll wait for Xen or the successor to skt2011-3, I have no rush to upgrade at the moment.

AMD ain't going out of business. So you have nothing to worry about. It's all about Restructuring. This Quarter shows they are on a good trajectory. ZEN will hopefully push them into a sustainable profit territory.

The whole point is they are no bleeding cash anymore.

Looks like the only thing that will pull in any real revenue for them is Polaris, assuming that it comes out before Q4.

Agreed. :)

Also another note, , this is somewhat good news. They've Managed to reduce operating losses quarter over quarter.
Quote: ""
Operating loss of $49 million, compared to an operating loss of $158 million for the prior quarter. ""

I think I am going to be like you with my current CPU and keep it for 4+ years.
At least the platform. I would be willing to get a 3960X off fleabay for 300 USD or so. No need to replace the platform however, I would prefer a SB-E chip that can actually do PCI-E 3.0 like my 3820 and VT-d as well. The earlier 3930ks and 3960Xs had an issue with VT-d iirc. Heck, if the price was right, I would get an IVB-E CPU if I ever needed an upgrade... which I don't. :)

Yea, its nice to be able to hold onto a CPU for a good while and have it still be more than viable. Wish I had invested back then as I would still keep using it as well. But hopefully I can keep this one until it either degrades poorly or I finally decide I need more oomph out of it but unless something huge changes I probably won't.

My current build was the last big spending I did just prior to my daughter being born. The benefit has to be pretty big nowadays for me to think it's worth it.

Family comes first. Speaking of which, my wife's laptop needs a SSD and a better wi-fi card (both of which I already have.)

Yea, besides GPU's I will probably be waiting on this awhile as I have had to hold off on my old upgrade habits. Every time I think about doing something now a days something breaks so I try not to think about upgrading :p (Dryer, Washer, Water Heater all last year lol).

I replaced my car a year ago with a new 2015 Subaru Impreza since my poor Saab met the end of its life (or 3000 USD of repair work which I wasn't willing to do,) and had to spend money to repair damage to the Subaru thanks to the Taxachusetts gravy train not cleaning up debris on their highways, so I know all about bad luck... just another reason why I don't upgrade often anymore but, I digress.

Surprised at such a late release, only if AMD comes to the table with the same half hearted release as the Nano and Fury met.

Looking forward to Zen, absolutely! It's the first time I've really been looking forward to AMD, and I'd be happy to give them my business if their products are 70% as good as they are claiming (20% AMD PR BS factor, 10% overclocking potential). I'd honestly love to keep the 3930k for transcoding only.

Looking forward to Polaris/Pascal, finally. I'm going to be happy to not have my upgrade options be the Nvidia tax or a space heater. Maybe they'll even give us a compelling reason to finally switch to Windows 10. I'm crossing my fingers here, because my personal preference is still 7, largely because Windows 10 treats us like morons who don't deserve the ability to manage our own hardware and drivers.

As far as the early 3930k's having issues with VT-d, unfortunately your memory is correct. My initial chip was pretty much worthless in that regard, but when I traded it and my old motherboard in (tired of RMAs on the board, and Gigabyte recommended I get a new CPU...sigh) everything worked properly. Not 100% sure if that was CPU or motherboard related, but either way it was only a minor annoyance.

Amen to that, same reason I don't anymore either. 2 years ago a drunk driver (Assuming, he/she never got caught because a white dodge pickup with a grill guard is apparently a huge chunk of Texas) ran me off the road in the middle of nowhere (its Texas, we have a lot of those :p) and I flipped my Explorer. Had to get a different car which I bought a lightly used one but still set me back with payments and such so I know the feeling (Especially cause my explorer was not worth much anymore except to me). I was very happy I didn't invest in new parts that I had been looking at a couple of weeks back.

Yea, hopefully this generation of cards (both sides) are better than this round because I want some actual movements in the performance segment. Same with Zen, it will be nice to have a better second choice coming up.

I was expecting it to be delayed to 2017. If they can be actually bought in Q4 2016 (so it's not Fury-like paper launch), I'm positively surprised.

I can hold on with my Phenom II until then. It's only 7 years old soon.. still haven't really needed anything more powerful.

With the graphics card you have, I don't blame you. No bottlenecking there.

IF the timing is as predicted, that may be a perfect moment to think about switching to something with more than 4 cores. DX12 will be maturing by then, Star Citizen will be around the corner if not already released somewhere along that time, and me and you both know that game will destroy everyone's PC, GPU and CPU alike.

For high end gaming, Zen's release schedule may finally look like great timing on AMD's part. And that's a first in the industry :) If they release it as a competitor with a mainstream price, more than 4 cores and competitive with Intel's E-platform, they got an instant winner even if their IPC is still slightly behind (which it will be, let's be honest). In short, if they bring hexacore to the masses at near-Intel performance levels... they're back and I'm 'going AMD'.

Having said that... there is still a 95% chance AMD won't make it in time.

Benchmark Scores 3050 scores good 15-20% lower than average, despite ASUS's claims that it has uber cooling.
Does it contradict her earlier statements?
