Computer restarting itself no bsod or windows debug files made

Hey guys, well for the past few days my pc has been rebooting itself about once a day in cleanly and I'm not getting any blue screens, windows is not creating any memory dumps or debug files and my bios is not showing an error code like it would before when it did this because I've had this problem in the past but I was able to fix it with using windows debug and my bios showing me error codes.


The issue started 3 days after I did a fresh install of windows 10 and it has been doing it about once a day sometimes twice.

In the system event viewer it's been showing a kernel power 41 error.

I have set up in the advanced windows start up recovery to create a small memory dump, disabled automatic restart and set to create the mini dump in c:\windows\minidump but still no go.


The issue is really starting to cause me to scratch my head but I think it might be an overheating issue because earlier today I took my side panel off ran prime 95 for over an hour then ran the gta 5 benchmaek for a while sonce it's the only game I have installed for testing purpose and no reboots.

The only things I have installed on my computer at the moment are gta 5, all my hardware drivers, prime 95, chrome and drivers for my dualshock 3 gamepad.

I have ordered a case fan and I'm goin to cut out some holes on my side panel with my hammer drill and mount and see if that helps bit any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Before you start hacking on your case, did you check temperatures to see if that was the issue???

WHEN does this reset actually happen? On load? Idle? What applications are running, etc.......

That issue was from last year and I was still running windows 7 and I was able to fix it was related to my Nvidia drivers and I was get a bios error and windows was creating a memory dump then that's how I was able to figure out it was my gpu driVera acting up.

And temp monitoring software isn't accurate with my system it tells my cpus are idling at 70c and my ram is idling at 60 and according to my bios my cpu is idling at 32 and ram is at 28 and I trust the bios more than software. My gpu is fine it idles around 30 and sits at 50 under a full load unless I overclock it then itl sit closer to 60.

But like I said when I took my side panel off the rebooting stopped.

And the rebooting has occurred under both idle with no apps running and under a full load when playing gta 5 or running prime 95.

you have to disable auto restart in windows to allow the BSOD to show up

If you are talking about in advanced settings under start up and recovory I have done that unless u are talking about another setting I need to change.

i would do another windows install.. my machine was doing the same thing.. reinstalling all my hardware drivers fixed it.. windows had made a pigs ear of it..

Check windows logs. I had similar issue with "PC unexpectedly lost power", and it was always related to OC and overoptimistic RAM settings.

Check your power settings and see if you have it set to sleep or hibernate, in any of the settings

This was causing almost an identical issue on my rig. Is the CPU or ram overclocked? Try loosening your ram timings some maybe.

I'm not running anything over clocked and I cant change my ram timings since my motherboard is oem. I've also disabled sleep, hibernate and turn off hard disk in advanced power settings and I turned off fast boot and it still happens.

If it's not hardware like a bad stick of Ram try running the system without the game controller plugged in during games, there may be a software conflict.

If there is a software conflict caused by the dualshock 3 would re installing windows fix this? And if the motherboard was bad wouldn't I get blue screens?

IL run mem test overnight when I get home and see if there is any bad ram but is there anything else I could do to get a memory dump or some kind of error code to better trouble shoot if nots due to over hearing?

And caring you may be right I think I unplugged the dualshock when I tested my pc earlier but I don't remember exactly but ive been out for the past hours so I will double check when I get home.

hard resets = hardware problem
blue screens are good, computer randomly shutting down or restarting without a error . very bad

Ok quick update I just got home and caring1 might be right I left the dualshock 3 unplugged like I thought i did earlier today when i ran prime 95 and gta 5 benchmarks for abput 2 hrs that may have been the reason I was having restarts. I just got home and it wasn't plugged in I remember I unplugged it last night I copied my saved games to external hdd in case I had to re install windows.


I'm goin to do some more testing one Moar I hope my motherboard isnt failing all of a sudden if it is what would be some other signs?

If its heat then make sure all dust is removed, I usually unplug(hold power button after) then open the case use a clean/dry long bristle paint brush. If excessive dust is present then also use compressed air or a shop vac to suck i up. Dust creates heat heat kills hardware,etc.

Yeah I bought some air duster but I did a good clean out a couple of months ago but il do that tomorrow during the day.

I am starting to think its something with windows 10 and my dualshock 3 though but I could be wrong. I didn't have this problem with windows 7. If I can't figure it out il re install windows.

the error code he was getting in his other thread is specific to either a motherboard or cpu failing it is not a software problem

I'm not getting any error codes now like I was before in my bios like I stated before it did that in the past but I fixed that issue.

doesn't mean anything just means the the problem has gotten worse to the point where instead of throwing a code its just shutting down
system has likely had a problem since dec and its been intermittent and going unnoticed

Hello stoggs1 I have over 23 years of experience on working on computers and I'm also A+ Certified and I can tell you that the issue your having could be contributed to a overheating issues or a bad powersupply, I would check the CPU thermal paste and make sure its not dry and krusty. If that's turns out to be OK, than I would go buy a power supply at a local store and see if the power supply might be the issue since power supply's are difficult to diagnose. Make sure that the local store has a return policy just in case I'm wrong. Good luck

Quick update, I just played gta 5 with mouse and keyboard and with the dualshock 3 unplugged for about 2 hours with no crashes or any other issues so maybe that was the problem.

IL continue using my computer without the gamepad plugged in see what happens. Hopefully that's all it since I do have a 3rd party ps3 pad I can use if I can x360ce to work.

Thanks for all the advice. And IL keep everyone updated just in case but I hope that's all it is and not something more serious.

And if it is just the gamepad what are some steps I could take to get it to stop reseting my pc? I would like to be able to use it with some games.

follow the clues.. your problem seems very similar to the one i had about a week ago.. i thought hardware failing.. but re-installing all my hardware drivers cured it 100%..

Ok thanks il try that if the problem persist but I really am thinking it's related to the ds3 but I could be wrong.

IL continue to use my pc without it and if the restarts stop then that's the problem.
