I've seen that issue around bright light sources when God Rays are set to low or medium. I don't know why it would be happening in there though.

Try raising God Rays to Ultra to see if it goes away. There will be a performance impact though.

So I'm away from home (just my luck being away at the same time the dlc was released).

However, I'm trying to play the game from this laptop which has a 520M.
I keep getting "Fallout 4 has stopped working" as soon as I launch the game.

I was expecting to play on very low settings, but not this...
Is there a fix or is the game just not supposed to run on this gpu?

It's likely that the minimum required 550 Ti is about 5 times as powerful as a 520m.

550 Ti Passmark Score = 1923

try other drivers - i had hell getting it to run on my dual graphics laptop on W7, but it worked on W10

What I said still applies though, just not to the same degree. The GTS 250m scores only about 570, bringing it within about 1/3 the power of the minimum required 550 Ti. What erocker suggested may work though. Just not sure if the extensive work applying all the mods will be to your liking.

I bought a desktop version of a GTS 250 years ago when I first built this rig. It was intended to be a temp card while waiting for the 580 to drop in price. For $70, it far exceeded my expectations and I kept it two years and finally bought my current 7970. Those days are gone though. In gaming, everything becomes obsolete eventually.

good good... i'ma little bored with the main game, new fan made content/changes might make me put more time into it.

as a story player and not a grinder, there just is no appeal once i got all the weapons/mods/locations explored

Exactly. I'm afraid I tend to get easily distracted in these games, and wander far off course. I hate trying to get this weapon or that armor, I enjoy the stories a good bit more (like the Silver Shroud

storyline). Looking forward to seeing some things that irk being fixed, and to see what can be done with the full kit now

i guess its... puzzle solving? and when i'm given the same puzzle 50x in a row, i get no satisfaction from it, even if they rotate which location its at (navigate X building, kill same enemies spawned in same place, repeat)

I really wanted to enjoy this game but the storytelling was just so lacking I couldn't stay engaged. It didn't help that I didn't play any previous Fallout games so I wasn't up to par with mechanics and nuances either.

Or even the whole story! I'd say go back and play Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas for a good appreciation and understanding of the whole Fallout universe lore, etc. Even in those two, alot of things are referenced to the original two Fallout titles.

It can certainly be confusing to jump in on something like this years later.
